My name is Willie. With regards to tutoring, I have five years of one-on-one tutoring experience. Students seek me out to improve their skills in a variety of areas, including Spanish and SAT test preparation. I have scored in the 90th percentile in both the Math and Verbal sections of the GRE, which is the graduate school version of the SAT.
When I work with students, I create multi-step plans when addressing learning difficulties. Students appreciate this layout and find improvement in their field of difficulty.
To have success in tutoring, the student should ask lots of questions and be willing to push themselves, even if that means making a mistake. Learning from mistakes is one of the best ways to educate oneself.
My academic experience includes a Bachelor of Arts in History from Gonzaga University and a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies from the University of New Mexico. With regards to Spanish, I worked as the coordinator and lead interpreter for a Spanish language school in Guatemala.
With regards to classroom teaching, I have taught English as a Second Language during my Peace Corps service. In the United States, I have taught U.S. and World History. Most recently, I served as an outdoor science teacher in Grand Teton National Park. Currently, I am applying to Physical Therapy school with a start date of September 2012.
My rate is posted on my profile. I am willing to negotiate this rate if you are willing to meet on Mercer Island.
I am a very patient individual who can assist students in reaching their highest potential. I look forward to working with you all!
Best,
Willie
