I am an experienced retired elementary teacher (certified in Washington from the University of WA). I love children!!!! I have a daughter that has a learning disability and I tutored her throughout her entire school experience. I have also been very active in assisting in classrooms in the past.
It is important to assess each individual to discover his/her strengths and weaknesses. In addition to this evaluation, I will pay close attention to the individual's learning style/s and tutor accordingly.
It is my obligation as a tutor to establish realistic goals with my students, always taking the positive approach with every lesson, always being patient and making sure that the student is comprehending all of the material that is presented prior to moving on, and it is my desire that each student feels the sense of accomplishment.
I have been tutoring extensively for the past three years. My students are all ages and have different struggles(weaknesses) and abilities. I feel that they are all making steady progress due to my tutoring. I tutor one-on-one and small groups...depending upon the material that is being presented. Most of my tutoring is in the language arts curricula.

I have spent a great deal of time tutoring children in writing. I have many materials to help these children learn how to write. Every child is different and it is important that I know the learning style of each one. I want writing to be a pleasure for each child. It is an excellent way for a student to be able to express himself/herself. The key is to recognize the many steps that need to be taken in the writing process. The development of learning this process is extremely important.

SAT Writing

I have a great deal of experience in helping students write for the SAT. I edit papers for students in high school on a regular basis. Grammar is extremely important for any paper that is written. Incorrect grammar is a "red flag" for anyone that is reading and analyzing a specific paper. It is necessary to insure that all grammar has been edited. Autism

I am an experienced retired elementary teacher (certified in Washington from the University of WA). I have experience with students that are on the "autistic spectrum". This spectrum has a wide range of developmental levels. It is extremely import to assess and evaluate each autistic student to know where he/she falls on the spectrum. This is a special need that definitely has to be evaluated individually and a specific program needs to be adapted for each student.

Dyslexia

I have a daughter that is dyslexic whom I have tutored through all of her school years (including college). I have students who are dyslexic - ranging from 7 years old to 17. There is a completely different process that a tutor must follow when tutoring a person who is dyslexic. I have a great deal of experience in this "special need" category.

ISEE

I am an experienced retired elementary teacher (certified in Washington from the University of WA). ISEE is a test that is mandatory for many students to take, which is part of their application (primarily for private institutions) I have tutored many students specifically for ISEE testing. ISEE tests are very similar to other entrance exam tests.

Social Studies

I have a great deal of experience in tutoring Social Studies for the past three years. My experience includes middle school as well as elementary. My minor in college was Sociology. This is often a subject that needs writing and language arts expertise, as well. I am qualified in those areas, also.
