Adobe Illustrator
As a graphic designer for large corporations, I use Illustrator to create vector graphics that can be enlarged to any size without losing resolution, logo design, signage, and simple animations for web and presentation use. Knowing Illustrator well is the basis for my professional design work because it is interoperable with Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and animation programs like Flash.
Adobe InDesign
I have worked in the corporate technical industry for over 15 years on marketing and training teams as a designer. InDesign is a great program for developing templates and documents with repetitive content or multiple masters. I can help you not only take your InDesign expertise to the next level but also teach you design principles for clean, modern documents or convert another page layout program (Quark, PageMaker or FrameMaker).
Adobe Photoshop
I have worked in the corporate world (Panasonic, Microsoft, T-Mobile and Paccar) as a graphic designer on marketing and training teams. I learned the finer points of Photoshop from one of Photoshop's developers, Katrin Eisman in a studio workshop in Santa Fe, and have refined my skills over many years. My areas of expertise are photo retouching, masking and compositing (taking part of one photo out and/or combining with another photo).
Desktop Publishing
I have a publications background in magazine and advertising design. Whether you are using Microsoft Publisher, PageMaker, or InDesign, I can help you not only take your your technical expertise to the next level but also teach you design principles for clean, modern documents and industry-standard page markup techniques that you will need to work with publication houses.
GED
GED preparation doesn't involve memorizing a dizzying amount of material from a 3-inch thick manual. I break it down into vocabulary exercises, test-taking strategies, and general knowledge. With commitment from the student, anyone can pass their GED tests.
General Computer
I am a corporate computer trainer and have worked in marketing and training departments of many large corporations on computers with a passion for enriching lives through technology - for any student, at any level. My background is graphic and editorial content - I can help you learn to create files in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, email and other programs.
Microsoft Excel
I have been a user and teacher of Excel for many years in corporate environments to create databases of information, and to analyze that data with reports. I start with the basics of building spreadsheets with information, followed with writing formulas to use that information to do reporting, and then use graphics and formatting to present it in its best form. Whether the student is a beginner starting from scratch, or an intermediate student that needs to know more than building spreadsheets, I can take them to the highest level they need.
Microsoft Outlook
Working in the corporate world for many years supporting executive teams, I have mastered several versions of Microsoft Outlook. I can teach you the essential skills of using email, scheduling meetings, setting up voting buttons, managing a calendar, sending email on behalf of someone else, and sending email messages with links and graphics. Knowing these skills will keep your information organized and make you an valuable team member or assistant in the business world!
Microsoft Publisher
As a corporate trainer with over 15 years of graphic design background in the business world, I can show you how to use Publisher to create printed pieces for fun or business. Publisher has great built-in artwork that makes it easy to make professional looking pieces set up to be in position for folding when you print. Learn to make your own one-of-a-kind greeting cards, brochures, fliers, menus, business cards and other fun projects!
Microsoft Windows
I have worked in the corporate world for many years using many different versions of Microsoft Windows. Windows allows you to work with more than one file or program on your screen. I can show you how to work efficiently and manage settings like the size of your text, the background on your screen, and making clickable shortcuts to often-used locations, programs or files.
Photography
I have done extensive photography and Photoshop in corporate settings for events and product shots, and my work appears in the archives of Microsoft, Panasonic, and Paccar. I am knowledgeable about the workings of professional grade cameras and how their functions translate to consumer cameras for such things as autofocus, programming digital settings, white balance, shutter speed, aperture settings, and lighting. On the post-processing side in Photoshop and other digital software, I teach how to simulate these functions after the shot is taken to maximize the impact of the image.
Spelling
For over 15 years, I have worked in corporate communications for some of the Northwest's largest companies and as a remedial reading teacher. Learning to spell like a pro will help you at work and in reading for pleasure. I will help you become confident in your ability to choose the right words and spell them correctly!
