I want to help students find their zest for learning by sharing the knowledge and passion that I have acquired over the years. I speak fluently in three different languages. Russian is my native tongue, but I consider myself to be even a better expert of English (I’ve put more effort into studying it). My two majors were English and Spanish, so I can say that I’ve dedicated quite a bit of time to both of these. In-between learning languages, I’ve had many opportunities to tutor students in both English and Spanish. Since my goal has always revolved around teaching, I should mention that I also have minored in Education and have recently received a TEFL certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). I have worked with people of all ages, from elementary students to young adults.
I have a lot of respect for everyone who is learning a new language. I have walked the same path many times and I understand new language learners very well. Languages are my passion and helping students break through the walls of a new language is something that I cherish greatly. From my experience, what most students need is help clearing up some misconceptions about the language (every student gets stuck somewhere once in a while) and getting more practice speaking the language. I understand how languages work and I also know where students generally get stuck and why (I’ve been there myself). I can help students get through those areas where they struggle, I can provide them with opportunities to practice the language, and I can help them understand some fundamental aspects of the language to make their learning a bit easier.
