Hello,

I would like to introduce myself. I am an experienced elementary school teacher with a background that specializes in reading and phonics. I have most recently worked as a Library Media Specialist and love teaching children to appreciate literature. I have taught all grades preschool through 12th, but specialize in the K-6 range. I have taught in five states and worked with many kinds of children for the past 25 years.

I have great references showing my character and experience and would love to meet you to discuss how we can partner together to help your child be successful.

American History

Not only am I well traveled within the United States, but I have also done extensive research in the background of American History. I am an unofficial Lincoln historian, and have visited many historical sites such as presidents' homes, Civil War battlefields, the Oregon Trail, Lewis and Clark Trail, and Mission Trail.

Reading

For the past seven years, I have taught K-8 library in Arizona and Oregon. I have ordered thousands of library books, attended wonderful author workshops and seminars, hosted many successful book fairs, and maintained the AR reading database at my elementary schools.

Geography

I have traveled to five European countries, five Canadian provinces, and thirty-eight states. I have taught map units and geography to my K-8 students.

English

I have taught ESL students in Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington.

World History

I have traveled to five European countries and visited many important places in Germany, Austria, Holland, Denmark, and Norway. I have written and taught curriculum about the Holocaust, WW II, etc.

Spelling

I co-chaired our annual spelling bee at our elementary school.

General Music

I have choral and music theory units on my college transcripts. I toured with the Biola Chorale for four years in Europe, Canada, and the United States. I have also cut albums and done studio work vocally.

Phonics

I have a strong background in phonics and have taught several different phonics based curriculum to my K-8 students: Abeka, SRA Rewards, Headsprout, etc.

Piano

I have played the piano since I was seven. I have piano units on my college transcripts. I have also taught piano for two years to elementary students.

Bible Studies

Minored in Bible with 30 units from Biola University, graduated 1984.

Aspergers

I worked with Autistic and Aspergers Syndrome students while teaching in Charles County Unified School District. This was in 2002-2003, in the Special Ed program. I taught these students at the middle school level.

Macintosh

I have taught Macintosh computer systems and software to K-8 students in Beaverton School District, Oregon and Gilbert School District in Gilbert, AZ. I also have an iMac that I use at home!

Classics

For the past seven years, I have taught as a Library Media Specialist in K-8 schools in Oregon and Arizona. I have taught literature classics and promoted AR reading with all of my students.
