Algebra 1
I am highly qualified to tutor Algebra 1, with a PhD in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Washington and more than 40 years of project experience in science and engineering. The coursework for my Ph.D. included an extensive amount of mathematics, including calculus with analytic geometry, ordinary differential equations, matrix methods (linear algebra), and calculus in two dimensions. Also, I have tutored physics, mathematics, chemistry, and English to three students who later graduated as high school valedictorians.

I have used calculus throughout my career to develop numerical models of high power gasdynamic lasers, hydraulic borehole mining systems, Arctic sea ice mechanics, ferrofluids, and energy efficient technologies. Also, I have tutored physics, mathematics, chemistry, and English to three students who later graduated as high school valedictorians.
Chemistry
I am highly qualified to tutor chemistry, with a PhD in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Washington and more than 40 years of project experience in science and engineering. I have used my knowledge of chemistry to model trace elements in coal-fired and gas-fired power plants, to analyze combustion processes in energy efficient technologies, and to model the reactions in gasdynamic lasers.
English
I am highly qualified to tutor English. I have been reading and writing business documents and technical documents on science and engineering topics for over 40 years. The documents include business letters (of course), proposals for engineering projects, project reports, business and conference presentations, peer-reviewed scientific papers, technical support documents, and user's manuals for software that I developed. My first large technical document was my Ph.D. Dissertation.
ESL/ESOL
I am a native English speaker who has worked with numerous colleagues born in other countries. As part of my job, I helped them to use proper English in their writing. Also, I recently scored 770 out of 800 on both the reading and writing portions of an SAT test.
GED
I am highly qualified to tutor for the GED test. I am currently tutoring physics, chemistry, and mathematics at levels ranging from Algebra 1 through Calculus. I have been using Microsoft Excel since it was first released in the early 1980's. I have used it for engineering analysis and modeling, financial calculations such as income taxes and return of investment, and databases for record keeping. I have built several mathematical models using 8,760 hourly timesteps with various numerical integration schemes. I have also set up dropdown menus, pivot tables, macros, and all kinds of functions, formulas, charts, and printing layouts.

I am qualified to teach study skills. I was a very successful college student, as evidenced by my cumulative GPA in graduate school of a perfect 4.0 (prior to decimal grades). My approach was to listen intently in every class, take notes of the important concepts, do all of the homework assignments, check my homework results with a study partner, and read the textbook before each exam.
