My name is Rebecca and I graduated from the University of California, Davis with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. I also hold a Certificate in Global Sustainability with a concentration in Environmental Law and Policy from UCLA's 36-unit sustainability program. I am currently working on a Masters in Arts in Theology (MAT) with a concentration in Ancient Contexts of the Old Testament at Fuller Theological Seminary. Previously, I worked as a biologist for environmental consulting firms in California; these opportunities enabled me to excel in consulting and researching environmental issues. I have successfully tutored students, organized and led homeschool lessons, taught laboratory courses, mentored a variety of age-groups, and worked as a long-term substitute teacher. I would love to help you with your short-term or long-term needs! I am patient and have worked with students of all ages, with and without special needs. I strive to ensure success and am especially concerned with each of my students being able to internalize the concepts behind their assignments so they can feel comfortable teaching it back to me; I believe this demonstrates that they have gone beyond simple memorization. I have experience working with students of all ages as a private tutor and substitute teacher and I have taught students basic language skills, including phonics. I use a variety of methods to teach phonics, including word families, flashcards, games, rhymes, and sounding out basic words while reading. I am currently teaching basic language skills, including phonics, to a young student whose primary language is Chinese. I am confident that I can continue to teach phonics to a variety of age-groups.
