Hello fellow academics! My name is Denise, I recently earned my Bachelors of Science in Biology from the University of Washington, prior to that I graduated high school with an Associate Science degree in Chemistry through the Running Start program. I have more than 6 years of experience tutoring people as young as 9 in subjects including elementary English, Washington state history, math from elementary to basic trigonometry, Spanish, chemistry, and biology. Though I am comfortable with all of these subjects, my true passion is tutoring in math and science, especially algebra and biology. By no means am I fluent in Spanish, but I have a command of the language that has proved useful to me on my travels to Honduras and Peru (my photo was taken in the Amazon basin of Peru!), and I am more than comfortable to help with Spanish.
Past students that I have worked with have had a wide range of skill-sets, some had ADD/ADHD, some were dyslexic, some were struggling to understand the communication methods of their teachers. It is my belief that by exploring different methods of explanation concepts that were previously dubious can be made clear. I am patient, enthusiastic, and compassionate; these qualities influence both the way I tutor, as well as my own learning. When a student finally grasps a concept it brings me as much joy as it brings them; I believe that humans are life learners, we should be excited about learning! The opportunity to help others to understand their full potential, and to become enthusiastic about learning is one of my passions.
