Hello Everyone,
I know most people will say that history is so boring and yes, it is rare it find students that will say history is their favorite subject. And I agree! Sadly, in the hands of the wrong person history has been deduced to boring irrelevant facts. And sadly it seems that all a student has to do is memorize a few dates and they pass history. To me history is not about the dates and facts, but about the people and their stories that make history so fascinating.
I am here to help anyone who needs help understanding and perhaps waking them up from their history coma.
I have experience teaching history/social studies. I have a minor in secondary education and have taken several education classes, I have done teaching in a classroom setting and outside the classroom as well in a non traditional setting,(in a museum setting). I discovered I truly enjoy non traditional settings.
My teaching philosophy can be summarized with two things: It must be fun and students' are not clean slates just waiting for someone to fill it up, they already come with knowledge and skills that I as a teacher can tap into to make learning relevant and a little easier. I understand that we all learn differently and I believe in a person learns when they themselves teach. So I will not expect a student to just sit there and listen, they will participate in their learning. I definitely believe in mixing it up and using outside sources that will add, even a drop of entertainment.
Most importantly I am here to make students feel and ease and confident, I understand how difficult life can feel when one is struggling in school.
