I have a Masters Degree in International Finance with a minor in accounting from the University of British Columbia, along with an (honors) math B.Sc. from the same university. I am a practicing CPA here in Washington State (placing 9th in the state on the exams) in and also possess an (inactive) C.M.A. accreditation (placing in the top ten internationally). I am a director of a not for profit entity which arranges exchanges for high school students of different nationalities. I volunteer with both the Chamber of Commerce and MIT enterprise forum, a nonprofit associated with MIT which encourages entrepreneurial activity on a world wide basis.
As a CPA, I have both consulted to and worked for, companies ranging in size from Fortune 100 to startups, in industries from manufacturing to life sciences and in positions ranging from CFO to project leader to staff accountant. In these positions I have been exposed to various types of software and to the value of establishing appropriate systems and controls.
I have, over my thirty odd year business career, aside from my ten years of CPA related activities, been founder of a software company, real estate developer and syndicator, banker, salesman and teacher. Over a period that, in total approximates nine years, I have taught both part and full time, at a high school in Australia, Bellevue College and the University of Phoenix (online). As well, I have worked, lived and traveled in various countries. All of these experiences have enabled me both to gain an ability to work with others (no matter what the level and cultural background) so as to achieve a desired outcome and to develop the communication and leadership skills necessary to be a successful teacher.
