Please note: I have a NEXUS card. Getting a NEXUS card requires passing an in-depth background check. (The card allows me to cross into Canada in the fast lane.)

Having taught K-12 and worked as a learning consultant in the corporate world, I am uniquely positioned to tutor students of all ages. I have made it my life's work to help students uncover their own brilliance and develop their full potential. I thrive on the challenge of making information come alive for learners, and I constantly search for new and creative ways of conveying ideas, knowledge, and content.

I began my career in the public school system in Toronto, Canada. During my ten years as a teacher, my travels took me to Europe where I lived for two years and worked as an instructor at an American private school.

After earning a Master's degree focusing on learning and development, I concentrated on adult learners and spent many years in the business world. In the last three years, I have branched out to tutor and mentor students of all ages.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

My experience includes eight years as an elementary school teacher. While I worked as a third grade teacher, I was also a language arts teacher, focusing mostly on remedial English. My students ranged from first to sixth grade. I am a certified elementary school teacher. My certification is from Canada.

English

Instead of the usual dry and boring techniques, my methodology helps people gain knowledge quickly and retain it longer. After attending my "boot camp" program, people easily understand the rules of Grammar and gain competency in English Language and Comprehension as well.

Grammar

After my Grammar "boot camp" you will easily understand the rules of Grammar and English. Using my approach you will quickly gain competence and confidence in Grammar and English.

Public Speaking

I have more than twenty years' experience teaching public speaking and presentation skills in the corporate world. I have also tutored high school students in the subject as well. Among the things you will learn are: how to organize and customize ideas to achieve objectives and meet the audience’s needs, how to use various media, and how to utilize powerful delivery techniques to achieve the desired impact.

Reading

I use multi-modal, multi-sensory techniques to help children with reading. I experiment with various methodologies until I find what works for each individual child.

Spanish

I use a contextual method of teaching language. It is not natural to learn a language by only memorization and a set of rules. The best way to learn to speak a language is by speaking! After your first lesson with me you will have at LEAST one hundred Spanish words in your vocabulary. Guaranteed! By your third lesson you will be able to form simple sentences with ease.

I teach Spanish for beginners only.

Study Skills

One approach to studying does not fit everyone. We have individual learning styles and individual ways of integrating knowledge. Therefore, I teach people how to study based on ways that work best for them. I utilize a multi-modal, multi-sensory approach that ensures retention of the material learned.

Writing

In my writing sessions, you will learn correct grammar, punctuation, style, and ways to write for all purposes: to inform, to persuade and to entertain, among others. You will learn how to captivate your reader, present information, support it with evidence and make your case. Whatever your writing goals are, I will be able to teach you the skills that you need.
