I received a 33 on the English portion of the ACT exam. I liked taking the exam and learned a lot from the experience. I learned to search for certain questions and to use the same method to answer many questions. Grammar and reading are passions of mine and I hope to extend all that I know to you.
I enjoy reading both non-fiction and fiction articles. I particularly like reading the passages presented on the ACT exam. I received a score of 30 on the reading portion of the ACT the first time I took the exam. I enjoy reading passages and finding a common theme that links the narrative or article together. It is enjoyable for me to figure out what the author's intent was when he or she first put pen to paper and to see how these articles impact people through the way they are written (persuasively, for example).
I have spent two years with younger people and am now familiar with the ways to have kids figure out problems on their own. In my time in high school, I tutored a second grader and a first grader. I helped them with all of their homework and made sure they understood what they were writing. I prepared them for classes by reading books with them, reviewing homework, and having them give me their work to be graded. I found it necessary to give them a lot more than one time to figure out the answer (I never gave them an answer to speed up the process). I've helped with reading, spelling, foreign languages, and math. I have also spent time tutoring at Kumon where I would grade reading and math packets while answering questions from students.
I have taken English in high school; I took the Advanced Placement Literature class as well as the AP Language and Composition class. I received good scores on both (4). I also have taken Creative Writing in my sophomore and junior years of high school. I enjoyed reading the multitude of poetry, plays, prose, etc. we encountered. I received a 720 on the Writing portion of the SAT. I think I am prepared to tutor anyone in English.
I have been residing in the United States since I was one year old and have been raised in the American culture. I would enjoy imparting my knowledge on people not familiar with English and American customs. I am approachable, friendly, and I have patience. I received a score of 720 on the writing portion of the SAT and I think I have the ability to share my expertise with anyone eager to learn from me. I have a passion to teach and would like to make a difference in the world by helping anyone who would like to learn English as a second language. I have attended college at the University of California San Diego, the University of Nevada Las Vegas, and Tacoma Community College. I love working with any age group and I like establishing a solid relationship with students.
I have taken French since I was in 4th grade and have enjoyed every minute that I have learned the subject. I enjoy learning about verbs and vocabulary, reading different poetry and books, and soaking up as much French culture as possible. French was always my forte in high school and I have received many awards such as first place in the National French Contest and was also an active participant in the National French Honors Society in my school.
I was brought up learning Hindi as my first language. My parents would speak Hindi around the house and I learnt by ear. I know how to speak Hindi fluently and would be able to help anyone who may need to brush up on conversational skills. I know the basic alphabet and vowels, but not much more in terms of reading unfortunately. I would like to share my expertise in this language with anyone who is interested in learning basic Hindi (common phrases, cultural festivals, etc.).
I have been studying piano and music theory since I was thirteen years old. I really enjoy playing the piano and would like to teach anyone who is starting out and would like to learn. I have a student who I am teaching, who is a beginner, and she is doing really well. In just a couple of lessons time, she has picked up how to read music and how to play short pieces of music. I enjoy working with her. I have a passion for teaching and would love to teach anyone who is willing to learn. I am eager to teach and to impart my knowledge to all the students out there.
I am very interested in Psychology because I love attempting to understand the human brain and why people behave the way they do. I intend to major in Psychology in order to pursue a degree and become a psychologist. I love talking to people and helping them through rough times. I have taken introductory psychology courses in high school and college. I have also taken a Lifespan Psychology course. I earned a 5 on my AP Psychology exam. Because I am majoring in psychology, I will be taking a lot of psychology-centered courses, so I will be on the same page as my students and be able to help students better. I love learning new things about the human brain and the human experience and understanding people on a deeper level.
The writing section of the SAT exam has always been easy for me and I have always come out with great results. I received a 720 on the writing portion of the SAT when I took it and the mistakes that I made were simply silly mistakes on my part. I would love to tutor anyone who would like to learn how to succeed on the writing portion of the SAT.
In high school I took Latin; this subject helped me with vocabulary because I knew the meaning of the roots of a word. It made it easier for me to get through both the reading and writing portions of standardized tests such as the SAT and the ACT. It is essential to look at the entire sentence in which the vocabulary word is found in order to let the context of the sentence aid the comprehension of an unfamiliar word. I've learnt to pay attention to second and third meanings of words because standardized tests look beyond the typical meanings of words and seek to challenge students to move beyond their comfort zones.
