My name is Bill. I am a retired USAF pilot currently working as an instructor pilot for the Boeing Company flying 747-400/8, 757, 767 777, and 787. Before attending college I was a missionary for two years serving in Colombia, South America. Because of this, and over 10 years studying Spanish up to the 300 level in college, I speak, read, and write fluent Spanish. I attended BYU in Provo UT where I received a BS degree in Zoology, then joining the military after graduation. While in the military I obtained an MS degree in Information Management and graduated from several master's level military schools specializing in safety, military history, technical writing, international relations, leadership, and public speaking. I recently graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with second master's degree in aeronautical science specializing in flight safety and aeronautical studies. I am currently in the process of applying to their PhD program in hopes of teaching Aeronautical Science at the university level after retiring from Boeing.
I have been teaching in some form since high school from coaching youth sports and giving swim lessons during high school to instructing pilots. There is no better nor more fulfilling profession than teaching. While in Colombia I taught lessons about my religion, did service among the poor, performed translation technical work, and taught lessons in English. I have done flight instruction for almost 30 years teaching people from over 30 countries. As a result I have been to every continent, and almost every state. I have met, worked with and briefed people ranging from, congressional staffers, leaders of countries, CEOs of fortune 500 companies, generals to very young pilots flying for the first time. I have done extensive volunteer work at our children s' schools, tutoring in math, the sciences, English, and Spanish. I have also been a volunteer and professional swim coach and have coach at the high school varsity, and USS swimming level.
I believe anyone can learn. If a student has a sincere desire to understand then it is incumbent upon the teacher to instruct to a level they do understand and to adjust teaching methods so this can be done. There are few things better in life then watching a student finally begin to understand a subject they have struggled with for so long. I have found students usually fear a subject not because they think it's irrelevant to them, but because they have not been taught in such a way to make the subject relevant and understandable. I have yet to work with anyone who did not begin to like a subject once they finally understood it. The desire to learn on the part of the student and the ability to adjust to a learning style on the part of the student are the keys to success.
Three of our four children are ADD/ADHD and went through the majority of their school years on IEPs. Getting the school to fulfill their legally mandated responsibilities in accordance with the IEP process was a constant struggle. As a result, I am very familiar with that process, most specifically with those children in the process as a result of an ADD/ADHD diagnosis. I have worked extensively with ADD/ADHD children both as a sports coach and tutor. I have found the reason most have difficulties is the public school system often still does not see ADD/ADHD for the difficulties it can cause to the learning process and are ill equipped to handle it. I have also found that ADD/ADHD children respond wonderfully to anyone who they feel understands their struggles, cares about the difficulties they face and sincerely wants them to succeed. Because of my family situation I have a special affinity for ADD/ADHD children. I want to help them reach their potential and have the successes they deserve.

I am a parent of four children and worked with them all through their school years. I helped my wife homeschool our children from kindergarten to junior high and then helped tutor students during in school study sessions in junior high as well as children from foreign countries such as Colombia, Peru, and China. I have a Master's of Arts in Computer Resource and Information Management from Webster University of St Louis MO. I have been wroking with computers since the 1970s when we used punch cards to enter data. Since then I have used computers on a daily professional basis for over 25 years. I was the information systems and computer systems manager for a small working group of 8 people for 1.5 years. I am intimately familiar with Microsoft Office and use it on a daily basis. I have also served as a computer merit badge counselor for our local BSA council. I am currently workng on a second masters degree in Aeronautical Studies which requires all class inputs be done via compueter and the internet. Each class requires weekly inputs, one including downloading and working with a math symbols program to download and upload advanced aerodynamic calculations. At the each of each class we are required to write and submit a multimedia (audio, video, text, and graphics) 12-30 page final presentation which is sent over the netyand peer reviewed and graded.
My current job requires me to develop, maintain, and present multimedia presentations. After each presentation is complete each lesson is taught on computer generated simulator and the final outcome is logged and recorded on a computer data recording system. I communicate with a full service Blackberry device using a Bluetooth headset when driving. I am very familiar with basic computer technology and how to use it.
I have a degree in zoology from Brigham Young University which includes extensive studies in microbiology. Included in these studies were several 200 and 300 level courses on microbiology, cellular physiology, lab work, and organic and inorganic cellular chemistry. While most people deathly fear public speaking, I am one of those rare souls who actually enjoys it and enjoy even more teaching others the little tricks and clues that can take to "fear factor" out of speaking publicly. I served as a missionary for two years in Colombia, South America prior to finishing college. There I learned to speak fluent Spanish, learned more of various religions of the world, and more of differing religious beliefs and cultures gaining increased respect for all. I attended religion classes through all four years of high school, and studied religions of the worlds as part of that curriculum. I attended seven semesters of religious instruction during my college years. I have taught religion classes at my local congregation to all ages ranging from preschool to adults. I do some sort of brief religious study 3-4 times a week. Religion is a very important part of my life and has been since my childhood.
As a parent of three special needs children I am very familiar with their unique requirements and situations. All three of my children are either college graduates or current college students. The college graduate is an Army officer and all had or have "B" averages in college. Having been through years of IEPs, from grammar school to high school, I understand the processes required for these plans to be successful. I also know that each student is different; each has their own challenges and frustrations, but also their own personalities and joys they experience. Through my time tutoring I have taught students challenged by ADD, ADHD, CAPD, and bipolarism to name a few. I have enjoyed working with each one and been very successful. I am convinced that these students, in concert with the school and parents, can find the success they want and are capable of in any academic environment.

I have given speeches to congregations of over 300 as part of current religious duties duties and taught speech preparation lessons to the youth groups sponsored by my church. In my current job as an aircraft flight instructor I have taught flight lessons to student from over 30 different countries and given tours, demonstration flights, and aircraft capability speeches literally to CEOs of fortune 500 companies and VIPs from international air carriers. Public speaking has been a part of my life since I can remember. High school, college, civilian and military courses taken about speech has allowed me to broaden my vocabulary given me the ability to adjust my speech style and patterns to any topic and group.

The current MS program I'm involved in requires up to 20 hours/week for course such as aerodynamics, human factors engineering, and Safety Managment Systems operations again requiring superior time management and study skills. My profession as an Boeing 747/777/787 instructor requires up to three practical tests a year again requiring that I maintain up to date study skills. I have found that few if any schools teach study skills and depend on students to try and figure this out often resulting in frustration with school. Refined study skills can help a student understand subjects much better when they know the right way to study. Less time is wasted and more information is retained. With over 45 years of refined time management and study skills I know how to study and to teach others these same techniques and skills.
I have been swimming competitively and coaching swimming for over 35 years. I have coached at multiple levels including summer league, USS, high school, masters, and as a swim camp instructor at SMU. I attended coaching clinics in o8 and 09 run by Olympic coaches, Richard Quick, Jon Urbancek and Mission Viejo Coach Bill Rose. I am a current ASCA level 2 member. I have coached swimmers from children to adult to USS sectional, zone, and national qualification levels and high school All-American Consideration in 100 Breaststroke and All-American in 400 free relay. Some of my former swimmers have held and still do hold multiple high school and club records in breastroke, IM, free and medley relays. I have worked extensively with adults to improve stroke technique for competition in masters, triathlons, and simply for the enjoyment of swimming better. I am a former Red Cross and BSA certified life guard and have taken and taught advanced BSA and military open water and cold weather survival courses.

Anyone can swim well, all is takes is desire a coach who knows what they're with a thorough and up to date background in the latest swimming techniques. I have that knowledge and I know technique.
I took the equivalent of AP biology in high school and I have a BS degree in zoology from BYU. Included in the classes was course work in biology, anatomy, molecular biology, advanced physiology, biochemistry, and organic and inorganic chemistry.
