Hello! My name is Richard J. and I can tutor in math (basic math through algebra and trigonometry) and physics.
I have an Associate of Science in Engineering from Tacoma Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics from Pacific Lutheran University and am in the final stages of earning a Master of Arts in Teaching Physics from Western Governor's University.
In working with a student, my focus is two-fold: helping him/her master the information and assisting the student in connecting the information in a meaningful way to her/his life. I believe that each student is a unique individual with a unique perspective on life. There are as many ways to learn as there are students. It is the tutor's job to present the material in a way that the student can understand and to which the student can relate. The student and parents are in the best position to inform the tutor on how the student thinks and learns. Teaching and learning are most effective when the student, the parents, and the tutor work together. Results are rarely immediate, but with patience, persistence, and flexibility any child can learn any subject.
