One of my favorite expressions from a former student is "I thought I could only draw stick figures!"
I believe anyone can learn to draw and paint! Perhaps not everyone can be a Leonardo DaVinci. However, everyone can learn to express their artistic vision through the use of such tools as pencil, brush and pigment on paper and canvas.
In a world that is becoming ever more focused on technology, it is absolutely vital to address the artistic facet of human existence within each one of us.
I work with students using such mediums as oil, watercolor, pastel, charcoal, color pencil and graphite. Students will come to understand and be able to use perspective, modeling, shading, negative and positive space, composition and color theory to be able to create representational and abstract art. Subjects can range from landscape, still life and figurative art to graphic design. I can tutor students in the use of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign as well.
Having raised two sons with ADHD, and one of those with dyslexia in addition, I have a passionate interest in helping each student find strategies and techniques that will help them learn and truly know they can succeed!
My second language is French and I am available to tutor French speaking ESL students.
I have been using InDesign as a graphic designer for more than six years. It is a great tool for print work. I have created pieces such as calendars, brochures and pamphlets with this program. The most important thing in learning to use any of the Adobe products is teaching students to how to find and use the tools and to feel confident that they can figure things out. This leads to creative and unique print products.
I enjoy very much sharing my fascination with Art History. I have studied it extensively and feel that helping my students to understand the history of stages and developments in art can aid them in finding their personal artistic voice.
I have more than 25 years of experience in fine art. I have an Associate of Arts degree and have done course work in drawing and painting, as well as graphic design. I have exhibited my work in national and local art exhibitions and galleries. My work includes landscape, still life and figurative pieces. I have taught classes on drawing and painting, and have a thorough comprehension of perspective, value changes, shading, modeling, composition, and color theory. I enjoy working with students of all ages. If you wish to see samples of my work, please let me know.
I am a professional artist with more than 25 years of experience. If you would like to see images of my paintings, let me know. I have been a member of Oil Painters of America for more than 10 years and have exhibited with my paintings in local, regional and national art shows. I do portrait commissions, with my favorite subject being children, as well as landscape, figurative and still life pieces. I have experience in teaching painting classes with a wide range of ages, from adult to kindergarten, including homeschooled students as well as students in the classroom in a traditional school format. Teaching people to understand color theory and how to use light and shadow effectively is a great joy for me. I love to see my students’ faces light up when they understand and then utilize their newfound knowledge as they create their own works of art!
Writing is one of my favorite creative occupations. I enjoy working in fiction and nonfiction, such as articles for medical clinic newsletters. And I really enjoy sharing my love for words and how they paint images on the canvas of the mind with my students. I especially find much satisfaction in working with students who deal with dyslexia, helping them to learn to believe in their own ability to write well.
