I am a graduate student with a bachelor's degree in music and a math minor. I have been involved in music for the past 15 years in a variety of groups, including large and small ensembles. I have been teaching private lessons for two years, and have worked with students through after school programs. I am a volunteer in high school band classrooms, running sectionals and conducting bands.
I work with the student to establish their previous experience and then we work to develop technique, repertoire, and theory in private lessons. In music theory lessons, I use both in class and take home exercises, from various sources, in order to find a system that works best for each student. I use a combination of lesson books, such as Alfred's Basic Piano and Hanon Exercises, and individual sheet music. I look to expand a students repertoire but also to make lessons enjoyable for the student by playing music they are interested in. For math, I work to establish what students struggle with and then work more intensively on those areas, while continuing to review math overall and progress forward.
