I recently completed my masters' degree in mathematics at Loyola University Chicago. I earned two degrees at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington; a B.S. in mathematics and a B.A. in political science. I have been tutoring students in middle school and high school-level math since I was in high school myself (eight years of both paid and volunteer tutoring experience). Besides my background in tutoring, I also have two years of experience teaching secondary math through the Teach For America program (a very competitive national program that accepts less than 10% of applicants) in Kansas City, Missouri. During my two years in the classroom I attended many professional development opportunities which exposed me to the latest research-based methodologies used to best reach every student. In my classroom I had to adapt my teaching style to reach students with a wide variety of ability levels so that each student received the quality instruction they deserve. I taught students with ability levels ranging from four to five years behind their grade level to two or three years ahead of their grade level in the same classroom. This coupled with my passion for math and math education makes me an excellent tutor for any child, whether they need some extra help in mathematics or an extra challenge for the very gifted student.
