As a current graduate student in the master of arts in teaching (MAT) program at Seattle Pacific University, I understand the value and the importance of education. I strongly believe that through the power of education, we have the ability to change not only ourselves, but the path we choose to follow as well. My passion for learning and education in general are as strong as my passion for literature; I believe that literature has the power to help us discover who we are, and that it is through reading and writing that students develop the ability to communicate with the world. While I am on route to becoming a secondary English teacher, I would love to be a part of aiding you in becoming the best that you can be.

As an English major, and a cum laude graduate, I have a vast knowledge of grammar, reading comprehension, spelling, proofreading, writing, and more. Although admittedly this is my first time as a professional tutor, I do contain a vast amount of experience working with kids. I was a volunteer for YMCA where I read to students in the after school program, and I have also volunteered for Seattle's Union Gospel Mission in the YROC program. As a part of the YROC program, we met with students after school, and taught them (as a group) about subjects such as: organization, confidence, self-image, and respect. I also have three years of experience working with students in a martial arts setting; I have led classes for students aged 7-16, and within classes I have helped students perfect their form and master their techniques as well as understand what it means to be a martial artist. I have also recently accepted a job as an instructional assistant at Open Window School and am working primarily with 4th, 5th and 6th grade students as well.

I would design my work to be both challenging and rewarding for the student. Throughout our tutoring sessions, I would keep track of progress and improvement, and assign small assignments that I believe will help them to master the subject.

Currently, because I am taking classes at SPU, I would not be available some nights of the week. However, I am happy to set up a schedule that works for both of us. I also have a 2 hour cancellation policy, but would be happy to schedule makeup classes.

I look forward to hearing from you, and helping you improve in your studies.

I graduated from Seattle Pacific University with my degree in English, and have a passion for reading, writing, and just literature in general. I believe literature and writing have the power to open the mind, and really show us who we are.

As an undergraduate at Seattle Pacific University with a concentration in English, I took an advanced grammar class where we were asked to diagram sentences, and really study the different uses of punctuation marks (we handled a lot of work on commas). I learned a great amount in this class, and I would be happy to pass my grammar skills onto other students.

Even as a little girl, reading was always more than just a hobby to me. Reading is a passion, it's the moment when you sit down with a good novel and you get lost in the text; You find yourself flying through Hogwarts, stumbling through a coat closest into Narnia, and becoming invisible as a Hobbit. Reading should never be a chore for a child, but rather it should be an escape into a place that will show them insight, courage, and their own worth.

As shown, I have a passion for literature, and that is what directed me into becoming an English major. As a student at Seattle Pacific University, I was introduced into timeless classics, and granted the opportunity to improve my understanding of authors such as Cormac McCarthy, Chaucer, Shakespeare, C.S. Lewis, and many more.

Martial Arts

Though I have recently stopped my training at Woodinville Martial Arts to pursue my teaching career, I trained at Woodinville Martial Arts for 6 years, and even advanced to Junior Assistant Instructor the last 2 or so years that I was there. I left Woodinville Martial Arts with a Teenager Black Belt - level 14. Either way, Martial Arts made a huge impact on my life, and my instructors shaped who I am today. While I would love to tutor you in this area; I will also recommend Woodinville Martial Arts as a great school to attend.

As an English major, I spent many hours writing papers. Well with many hours put into writing that meant the same (or more) amount of hours needed to be put into my proofreading. No matter how skilled you are at composing essays, the most important piece in the writing process is the proofreading. This is your opportunity to double check any grammar, spelling, and even word choice. You want your paper to sound elegant and complete and proofreading is the best way to make that happen.

I will be able to provide instruction on how best to proofread your papers, and how to do so in a timely fashion. No great author ever composed a work without writing, re-writing, and re-writing some more.

In June of 2013, I graduated from Seattle Pacific University with an English degree, and I am currently working towards my teaching certificate with my masters in teaching. I have a passion for reading and literature, and am actually on route to becoming a secondary English teacher.

Study Skills

As a cum laude graduate from Seattle Pacific University (SPU), and as a current student in the school of education at SPU, I have proved to be responsible as well as efficient in my study skills. I would be able to provide instruction on how best to take notes as well as how to take notes on reading materials as well. I then would be able to teach the student how to use those notes to compose a well rounded study plan for the course - including flash cards, associating the material with something relevant to their life, and sometimes even creating songs to help retain the information. Studying is about persistence, and almost becoming the material, and I would be able to help the student obtain those abilities.

As cum laude graduate from Seattle Pacific University, I have a vast amount of experience in writing many different types of essays. I have been acquainted with persuasive essays, compare and contrast essays, expository essays, and even creative short stories. Throughout my years as an English major, ten page papers became a speciality of mine. Not only am I able to help inspire ideas for starting essays, but I will also be able to aid in proofreading, knowledge in grammar as well as spelling, and how to best manage your time so that you are not up the night before trying to finish your paper.
