Hello to all,
I am an elementary teacher that has moved into the area to be closer to family. To get things started, I would like to continue to be a tutor outside of the classroom. I have taught for 10 years and had the privilege of working with grade levels K - 5th teaching all subjects. I have tutored for 8 years pre-K - 4th grade in all subjects. I love to teach and realize that ALL CHILDREN PROGRESS AND LEARN DIFFERENTLY. ONE GOAL IS TO HELP THEM FIND THEIR OWN STUDY STRATEGIES/SKILLS TO HELP THEM TO BEGIN TO WORK ON THEIR OWN. In tutoring, I have recognized a lot of issues result from lack of organization, which can be helped. I would have no problem emailing and talking to their teacher to get perspective on what they're seeing as an issue. I will use games, movement, paper/pencil, computer if available, etc. to have fun in learning.
Usually, at the first meeting I do an assessment and then I can see if they would benefit from one or two tutoring sessions weekly. I will also take into account his/her teacher's recommendations if needed.
My goal is to get my tutoring student to a place where they know their own strategies, can apply them on their own, and show progress in and out of school. Self esteem is important and a tutoring session shouldn't feel like a punishment.
