I have a B.A and M.A. from Oxford University in French and Spanish, an M.A. from the Sorbonne, Paris, and Middlebury. I was a tutor of European History in French, at Cambridge University, based at St.John's College, and I hold a diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language from Trinity College, London. I also taught English to foreign graduates come to Reading University in the U.K. to complete their PH.D I then taught French, Spanish, Italian and Latin at the Lakeside School in Seattle 1980 to 2000, where I also was Fencing coach in foil and saber and tutored in all these subjects from 2000 to 2011. I am now retired from full-time teaching and live in Edmonds, WA, and tutor single students 6th-12th grades, when requested. I am bi-cultural, having English and American passports, and still have a house in the U.K., which allows me to spend most of my (academic) summers in Europe.
My past student tutoring folder allows me to believe that I quickly build confidence and that my methods are unorthodox but rapidly effective, and sometimes "memorable", as I am frequently asked by former students in college or later in life to send me some of my materials, as they want to resume their foreign language. I love one-on-one work and to feel useful and helpful. I have been a teacher since 1957 and am now available from 10.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m. Monday to Friday, and can begin immediate;y if need be.
