Hello,
My name is Lisa and I have worked with children in a variety of settings such as classroom, child care, mentoring, and advocacy. I received a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Washington with an emphasis in Child Development.
I have over 12 years of experience working with children and focusing on academics. I've mentored high risk youth and was required to spend 50% of my one-on-one time with them on academics. I also work for the Seattle School District as a paraprofessional teacher's assistant.
I have experience working with children with special needs. I am very patient with my students and expect them to try their very best without too much coaching. Therefore, my teaching style involves letting the child find their own answers and give their best effort before stepping in to help. I believe that many children think of tutors as people who will hand out all the answers, and so then they just don't try. My philosophy is this: children have the knowledge but lack the self-confidence, they just need to be reminded of how capable and smart they really are!
I hope your child can benefit from my years of experience. I have helped many children accomplish their academic goals, move onto their next grade, and achieve ultimate self-confidence.
Thank You!
Lisa
