I lived and worked in Japan for many years for the U.S. Army using my bilingual skills to negotiate agreements between the U.S. Army and various Japanese Governmental agencies. Back in the United States, I worked for an arm of the Japanese Government helping Japanese businesses in developing International Trade with in the United States. I worked bilingually in Japanese and English both as an interpreter and negotiating international trade agreements. I enjoy helping Americans learn to speak Japanese.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. American History

Studied American History from the initial settling in the United States up to the present time, focusing on both the affects on the native populations caused by this and the impact and influence of both legal and illegal immigrants.

Art History

During an 8 year residency in Japan in the fifties I both studied art at Sophia University in Tokyo and took private lessons from a Japanese artist. I painted on glass; studied and produced Kamakura style wood carvings; carved and printed Japanese style wood block prints and studied Japanese brush painting. I visited many Japanese art museums, attended art lectures in Japan and read many books on the history and changes in Japanese art. Back in the United States I once was guest lecturer on Japanese art at a Community College.

Bible Studies

Have taught Bible studies and Bible exposition for years. Have written several study guides and expositions on specific scripture in the Bible.

Career Development

I have worked with persons with a variety of barriers to employment helping them decide on what career to pursue using a wide variety of valid tests. I am certified in giving, scoring and interpreting most psychological tests and have a Master's Degree in Psychology and had a national certification as a Vocational Evaluator. I worked as a consultant with Labor and Industries as well as the Department of Veteran Affairs assisting people make career changes. I am currently facilitating classes on career development with persons on TANF, helping them develop the tools they need to become employed.

Dyslexia

I have a Master's degree in Psychology with an emphasis in clinical aspects. I did a graduate research project working with a family with dyslexia. I learned various training techniques to assist children learn to ways to deal with their disability. I've spent over 35 years working with persons with a variety of disabilities with an emphasis on vocational rehabilitation.

English

I have a Master's degree from a State college in California as well as a lifetime Teaching Credential in the subject. At one time in my career I was director of Public Relations for a small banking chain. Part of my job duties was to write press releases; design advertising and write articles on the bank for the local newspaper when required. I have translated a novel into English which was published. I taught English as second language in a private college in Japan as well as in a United States Community college.

ESL/ESOL

I taught ESL at a private college in Japan many years ago and when I returned to the United States I taught ESL at a Community College in California. I've worked assisting foreign born students improve their English conversational skills here in Washington State lately along with other subjects. I enjoy helping people learn to understand and speak English to whatever level of fluency they desire to achieve.

Grammar

I have a Master's Degree in Psychology which required me to write many papers. I was Director of Advertising and Public Relations, which required me to write frequent articles for publication in the newspaper. In addition, I was Editor of the House Newsletter. I taught English as a Second Language in some private schools, as well as in a Community College. I have a life time teaching credential for Community College in Psychology from the State of California.

Japanese

I lived and worked in Japan for many years as a young man. During this time I studied at Sophia University in Tokyo and with the University of Maryland. Among other studies I have 2 years of Japanese from U or M. I worked for the Department of the Army negotiating contracts with the Japanese Governmental Agencies in Japanese and English. In addition, in Los Angeles, CA I worked for an Agency of the Japanese Government as Manager of International Trade Information. I frequently acted as interpreter for various Japanese companies in negotiations with American companies. I translated a Japanese novel which was published in English in Japan. I also taught English as a Second Language at several business colleges in Japan. In addition, I taught ESL in the United States at a community college.

Microsoft Excel

I have been using Microsoft Excel since 1995 in it's various versions. Before that I used DSB and Lotus so I'm familiar with the concepts and can design spreadsheets and insert formulas. I've also used Google Docs Spreadsheets lately.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have used Microsoft Powerpoint to develop and show presentations for the State of Washington in the past.

Microsoft Windows

I have been using various versions of Microsoft windows since 1995. Prior to that I used Apple operating systems. I currently am using Windows 7 and anticipate upgrading after the Windows 360 has been debugged.

Microsoft Word

I've been using Microsoft Word since 1995 and am currently using the latest version of Microsoft Word. Prior to that I used Applesoft and Wordperfect in it's various formats. I've been certified before by an independent agency.

Proofreading

I studied typesetting in school and therefore had to proofread my finished work before it was printed. I wrote articles for publication, also proofreading them before submission. I was editor of a house organ which also required proofreading before printing. I have a Master's degree which required my papers to be proofread before turning them in.

Public Speaking

I have acted on the stage in equity waiver productions; been on television several times, on the radio including a stint hosting a call in talk show program; was a judge for High School Debate and speech contests in Washington state for 2 years; am an advanced member of Toastmasters; have given talks before professional groups and associations on a variety of topics. I was also a guest lecturer at the University of San Francisco.

Reading

I have a Master's degree in Psychology, which indicates that I have the ability to read complex data and understand it. I have translated a Japanese novel into English and it was published in Japan. I read a wide range of books every year and have acquired a wide vocabulary. This will assist me in training others to enjoy reading.

Study Skills

I have taught study skills to those with disabilities as well as person's receiving TANF that want to enter or re-enter the labor force. This is over a period of 35 years.

Vocabulary

I taught English as a second language both in a private Business College in Japan and at a Community College in the USA. I was editor of a House Organ; wrote Press Releases and speeches for the President of the company. I've written several Bible studies on Ethics and understanding the Bible as well as manuals on Vocational Counseling for a non-profit in California and one in Kansas.

Writing

As Director of Public Relations and Advertising for a California bank with 10 branches I wrote press releases; edited the house organ which required me to photograph staff, write extensive articles about board members and staff on a monthly basis as well as provide Advertising copy to various media. I co-translated a Japanese novel into English which was later published. I wrote various reports on different industries in the Los Angeles area in English for use by the Japanese Government in marketing, while working for an agency of the Japanese government. I have written many Bible study guides for use in teaching classes on subjects such as Christian Ethics.
