My name is Elissa and I am a recent English Literature graduate with a passion for teaching. I graduated with distinction from Stanford University in 2010 with a BA in Classics and Italian. In 2012, I completed an MA in English Literature at the University of Cambridge in England. During my years as a student I undertook a variety of teaching positions. As an undergraduate, I worked as a teacher for an after-school program and served as co-president of a group that provided free music lessons to low-income youth. Last year, I taught an Advanced English Language course for an international summer school program in Cambridge. I developed my own curriculum for this course, targeting a range of levels and degrees of fluency. I have also worked as a summer school teacher, private tutor and college counselor in the Seattle area. My areas of expertise include literature, grammar, essay-writing, SAT reading and writing, TOEFL and public speaking.
I aim to pursue a career in education, and it is my goal to share my passion for literature and language with each one of my students. During the first lesson, we will determine the skills that need improvement and then develop a plan that targets those areas. Language and literature coursework typically involves a combination of oral and written assignments as well as critical reading exercises. I am also happy to correspond regularly with parents to keep them updated on their students' progress. I believe in challenging and inspiring my students to perform at their best. I look forward to working with you!
