University of Washington (Physiology)
I am interested in opportunities to provide tutoring services to high school students, with a focus on Calculus, Algebra, and Geometry. I am also available to tutor science classes: Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Students taking my lessons will learn the material for their course and study strategies that will help them in future classes.
My approach is to teach the student how to identify the nature of the problem and to recognize the appropriate way to solve it. We work through the process several times together, identifying simple, logical steps for solving each type of problem. And then, I give the student sample problems to solve independently and coach them further as needed. My main goal is to make sure the student is self-sufficient, and capable of using the methods on quizzes and tests.
With respect to my educational background and work experience, I'm a Physiology major, and I just graduated from the University of Washington. I'm currently a Math and Science tutor at a school. In college, I completed math through Calculus 3 and am proficient in Advanced Trigonometry, Calculus 1 and 2. My favorite types of math are Trigonometry, Geometry, Algebra 1 and 2. I truly like and understand math concepts and enjoy helping others understand the underlying principles.
I would like to meet with you and discuss potential tutoring opportunities.

Raleigh has been working with our son, preparing him for college calculus. He is always on time, friendly and well prepared. We have had tutors before, none of which connected so well with our son and was so effective with getting the lesson plan or math concepts across. Raleigh has a passion for teaching and makes the dry material more interesting and attainable for his students. He encourages and affirms which is very effective with teenagers. We wish we had found Raleigh sooner!
Kudos, thumbs up, and a big thank you! Raleigh patiently worked with my son to help him turn his downhill spiral into an upward, positive, and successful finish in his Freshman Algebra class.
Raleigh is always polite, reliable, and professional. My son related well with Raleigh and even looked forward to his weekly tutoring, as it gave him a chance to ask questions and get instruction on the areas he was having difficulty with in class. I think the tutoring put my son at ease and took some stress out of his struggles to keep up and understand the various math concepts he had learned in class. My son was thrilled to receive his final math grade and I don't think he could have done so well with out Raleigh's helpful instruction.
I would highly recommend Raleigh as a math tutor.
We were very blessed to have Raleigh as a tutor. He really knew his area of expertise. He was very patient with my daughter. He was also very flexible with meeting times and locations. I would definitely recommend Raleigh to anyone looking for a tutor in math.
Raleigh has tutored my daughter one time. He was very patient with her and took the time to review a recent test she had just taken. He has already requested homework from her so he will be prepared for her next session.
Raleigh does a great job of patiently explaining in a way that the student can readily understand. He is dependable, professional and really knows his math concepts.
Excellent tutor! As a school principal, I get to evaluate teachers frequently, and I always rate Raleigh's lessons as 5 stars!
We just got an email from our son's math teacher saying he can see improvement already and that he can tell the tutor is helping. Great work!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
