Algebra 1

I started tutoring math at Oregon Institute of Technology when the student who ran the tutoring center heard me talking while we were waiting for class to start and after our class was over she came to me and asked me if I wanted to be a math tutor.

I originally hated math in high school (and feel that that makes me a better tutor than I would otherwise), and then after going through some early years of college and not doing so well and then going back to college later in life I started liking math and starting doing well at it.

So I ended up taking the tutoring job while I earned my BS at OIT, and continued tutoring at LWTC in Kirkland, BC, and UW-B.

Today I very much enjoy math and computers, and have enjoyed tutoring, as well as continuing to learn more about these subjects, and about the various aspects of the education process.

Algebra 2

I originally hated math in high school, and ended up having to take remedial math at Oregon Institute of Technology when I first attended. Eventually I went to college at Kenai Peninsula (Communty) College. At that point I started loving math, and then returned to OIT.

At OIT I was asked to become a math tutor by the lady who ran the tutoring center, and I took the job while I earned my BS at OIT, and continued tutoring at LWTC in Kirkland, BC, and UW-B.

Today I very much enjoy math and computers, and have enjoyed tutoring, as well as continuing to learn more about these subjects, and about the various aspects of the education process.

C#

I have been helping others with computer programing since 1979 while in high school, and I recently taught C# at Bellevue College, and can tutor you in the beginning concept of programming, using the C# programming language.

I will not assume any prior knowledge of computer programming. However, I will assume a certain level of familiarity and comfort with working with basic Windows file management.

I can help you learn how to create, initialize, and manipulate variables, and constants. I can help you learn how to create the various forms of IF statements, and pre-test and post-test loops.

I will help you learn about breaking code into smaller sections – methods, and will help you learn how to use arrays, and input and output files.

Computer Programming

I started programming computers in 1979 while in high school and discovered that I loved it. I also discovered in those early years that I liked helping people with their programming.

While working on my Associates of Applied Science in business I became a charter volunteer tutor at my college’s Student Tutor Education Program (STEP), and was a teaching assistant, and data processing assistant for various classes, and I worked as a lab aide / tutor in the computer lab during open lab hours.

As I continued my college education I continued as a lab aide and teaching assistant for various classes, and began tutoring math and computers for the college’s tutoring department.

After college I began tutoring math and computer programming at Lake Washington Technical College and at Bellevue Community College, and then began teaching math then programming at LWTC.

More recently I taught an introduction to computer programming fundamentals class at Bellevue Christian School, and tutored computer programming at the UW- Bothell campus, and then taught Java and C# at Bellevue College.

I have code samples available in C#, Java, and VB.

Computer Science

I started out helping people use computers in high school in my programming class. Later, I worked as a lab aide and tutor helping people learn how to both write computer programs, and also helped people with learning to use various software packages, programs that I had not used until I got the job as a lab aide.

I've also taken apart desktops and replaced and added parts and put the computers back in working order. I've also helped people with peripherals such as printers, etc.

I've also done phone support providing tier 3 technical support to wireless modem users, and helped customers with setting up their wireless modems.

Visual Basic

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
