Simple problem. The distance Jessica travels (falls) under the influence of gravity for "t" seconds is: 16 t^2 (the formula is s = 1/2 g t^2 where g=32 (the acceleration of gravity)). The bungee cord begins to stretch after Jessica has fallen...

I am passionate about giving high school and college students the skills they need to grow "from good to great" in mathematics. For seven years, I have been doing this in the Buckley/Bonney Lake area where I live and in the White River School District where I am fairly well known. Although I do not hold a teaching certificate (working on that), I am a certified Substitute teacher, I taught Algebra 2 at Choice HS, and I was an AVID tutor for three years at White River HS and Glacier MS. I am also the administrator and a volunteer tutor for a tutoring group in Buckley.

If you got high C's or solid B's in math and now you're mystified by some of the new stuff in calculus and precalculus, or if you're baffled by how much algebra and geometry you forgot during the summer (or during those years when you didn't take any math courses at all), then I'm your man. I am great at "demystifying" calculus and those awful words like "limits" and "logarithms" and "complete the square".

Math can be fun and easy, and I will try to make it that way for you.

My son's teacher wasn't connecting with him and was completely crushing his joy of math as well as playing havoc with his self-esteem. "AP Calculus is just hard," is what the school had to say and what the teacher had to say. "Your GPA is so high that you can settle for a D in AP Calculus and still be fine," is what the assistant principal had to say, but these are not things that Bob had to say. Bob spent several hours with my son, and when he left, the look of relief was visible. Bob has made my son see that he knows this information, it just needs to be tapped into. He is patient, extremely knowledgeable, and very available. I am happy we found Bob and look forward to working with him throughout this year and into the "dreaded" AP Calculus exam.

Bob has helped my son tremendously! My son is in AP Calculus and has been struggling since the first day of school. Bob has helped him go from an F to a B- in just a few weeks. Bob really explains and teaches well. My son can understand what the rules mean and how to apply them correctly! If it is not a tutoring day and he needs help, Bob is very willing to help him. It has given my son the confidence to do the math! Thank you so much Bob!

I walked into a math class after let’s just say several years of being out of school, terrified and without any confidence. I found Bob H. on your site and he has been amazing to work with. Bob has been very flexible and easy to reach, but more so he was patient, kind, and helped teach me math in a way that it made sense and was almost fun... almost. I would highly recommend Bob H. to any student of any age needing to walk through a math class at any level. I have been greatly blessed with Bob's direction and guidance through my math experience.

Thank you!

I felt a little nervous after my first exam didn't turn out as well as I would have liked, so the tutoring lesson the day before the exam was focused on reviewing the material. Logarithms, derivatives, and word problems focused on the economic application of both the subjects Bob reviewed with me. I aced that exam! Bob is an excellent tutor and I could not have done it without him.

Bob was instrumental in getting my daughter through Pre-Calculus. He was very patient and was very accommodating of my daughter's schedule and needs. He was willing to spend extra time with my daughter to prepare her prior to her tests. I will use Bob again if my kids need additional help with math courses.

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Word Problem (answer)

using the product rule for 84x56x84 (answer)

The Produce Rule is for Calculus (taking derivatives), but the problem stated isn't Calculus. If this is a simple arithmetic (multiplication) problem, then 84 x 56 x 84 can be done on a calculator: 84 x 56 = 4,707. Then 4,704 x 84 = 395,136.

Hi George, From the information given in your question, Newton is the way to go on this. Near the surface of the Earth, the acceleration due to gravity is ≈ 9.8 m/s2 (that's 9.8 meters per second per second). If you drop an apple from an airplane, skyscraper, or roof of your...
