I am a professional biologist, a former teacher and a mother. I have always had an affinity for teaching. Even as a new mom and a professional I have always found time to teach on the side. With my recent move to the NW (from Georgia), I have been working hard to meet people and get to know the area. My expertise is biology, environmental science, ecology, human anatomy and physiology and nutrition. I spent two years teaching high school biology and AP Environmental Science before taking my current position as a prof biologist, and I miss it much more than I thought I would. I have also spent time at the local colleges, in Georgia, teaching Human Anatomy/Physiology for non traditional students (night classes). I hope to be able to help students, to not only understand biology, but to gain an appreciation for the importance of it in our every day lives.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Basketball

I was head coach of the JV girls basketball team at Alexander High School, as well as the assistant varsity girls coah (2006-2008)when I was teaching. I played for six years in middle and high school and won the state championship in 1995 at Haraslon County High School.

Biology

I have a underagrate degree and a graduate degree in Biology. I am now a professional biologist for a large environmental consulting firm, but previously I was a biology teacher for both high school and two local colleges. I have 10+ years of experience as a biologist, practicing and teaching!

Botany

During my graduate work, I spent reserach time (under my professor) working with flowering plants of the Rosaceae family (Rose)to help reorganize and understand the family structure, from a long history of misclassification within the family. During my graduate work I also took courses like plant physiology and plant taxonomy. During my professional career I have spent numerous hours in the field working with all plants from wetland species (identification and classification) to various upland and wetland tree species, including threatened/endangered and rare species.

Physiology

As a high school teacher and as an adjunct professor at the local community college, I have taught Physiology to nursing students and non-med students. I would spend time after classes helping nursing students to better understand complex concepts and ideas which were important to their careers working in the medical field and with patients. I pride myself on being able to break concepts down for students to understand.

Zoology

My educational background including classes such as Natural History of Vertebrates, Entomology, (Invertebrate Zoology), Animal Behavior and Physiology are just a few that have given me a strong foundation in zoology. I have experience in my professional career working closely with various organisms and there interations within their environments, resulting in certain and specific types of changes in study protocol based on organismal response (threatened and endangered species).
