English as a Second Language: Beginning to TOEFL
I am a highly experienced ESL instructor available to teach all areas of English language, including grammar, listening, speaking and pronunciation and accent reduction, reading, writing, and functional English. I am K-12 certified, with 20 years' experience teaching foreign born and remedial students, from beginners to the college bound. I hold an M.Ed in secondary education, foreign language education.
I also teach basic academic skills and test prep, including all subjects in the GED and Accuplacer exams, and SAT critical reading and sentence skills. I will teach you the six sentence errors you must master, the patterns of organization and text structures that tell you how to interpret a passage, and powerful strategies for increasing your academic vocabulary without memorizing thousands of new words. I have also been highly successful in getting students to master basic math skills, such as how to handle fractions, ratios and proportions, elementary algebra, and basic geometry. Once I assess your current level, I will help you explore your goals and recommend a study plan. I can work with you on a regular basis or set you up with independent study resources to save you money, only working with you as needed basis for more direct instruction on your sticking points.
I have a BA in French from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, one of the highest-rated programs in the country. I taught English in Paris for almost two years, and I received 3.8 out of 4 on the ACTFL scale, the highest rating given to a non-native foreign language teachers. I can teach High School through 300 level college courses.
