I have been teaching Spanish and English to children and adults since 1998. From Florida I moved to Albuquerque to study Communications at the University of New Mexico, and later I began working in the television production industry. At this time, I was in charge of writing scripts in Spanish and English for a travel TV show. Later, I worked as a freelance writer and editor for public television stations in Florida.
In 2002 I moved to Oviedo, Spain to complete my master's degree in Spanish, and to teach English. Six years later, I returned to the United States to study education and ESL at City University of Seattle, and later I began to work for the Bellevue School District.
As a personal tutor, first I like to identify my student's strengths and needs to customize my lessons and present the material in an engaging and simple way. After I introduce my lesson objective and main concepts, I usually start with simple and practical exercises before getting into the grammatical structure of the language, but I always emphasize real-life scenarios and the natural use of the target language. My communicative approach reflects global influences and a rich vocabulary. I have been teaching Spanish and English to children and adults since 1998. Ernesto is a great tutor. He teaches me how to approach a sketch step by step. He has his own style but doesn't force his style on me. He encourages me to make use of my strengths and my style but at the same reminds me of making sure the end looks good.
Ernesto has been tutoring my son in year 2 (sophomore) Spanish for 3 months and we are already seeing a significant improvement in his grades and confidence in the language. Ernesto has the right combo of being approachable and a work ethic that is needed in a tutor. He is responsive to my son's needs and is happy to review course work, prep for a test or suggest a topic for study as needed.
He is flexible and easily contacted. I would definitely recommend him.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of New Mexico. In the past I have worked on oil paintings and wood sculpture. Presently I am working on a series of realistic charcoal drawings.
In 2002 I moved to Spain to study art history. Six years later I returned to the United States and moved to Bellevue to study education at City University of Seattle, and later I began to work for the Bellevue School District.
My teaching style is stress-free but consistent. I like to emphasize the structure of the language but I know that practice is the best way to master any new skill. My communicative approach reflects global influences and a rich vocabulary.
