I graduated from a medical school in China (Zhangjiakou Medical College) with an M.D. and obtained my master's in Tianjin Medical College in pathological physiology. Afterwards I worked in a Children's Hospital (Tianjian Children's Hospital) as a pediatric physician for one year and a half. In order to pursue a more advanced degree in medical sciences, I traveled to Singapore and studied in the National University of Singapore. With a Ph.D. in anatomy, I came to the States to research cancer and hematology. During these years of study and training, I have tutored and mentored junior students, staff, and colleagues in many study and research projects.
When I tutored the students, I summarized the key terms and concepts that are important for understanding based on the experience of my own learning process, and emphasized these keys to the students and designed questions to allow the students to reiterate these key concepts by themselves. Knowing that each student's learning style is different, I performed an assessment to figure out which parts posed the most challenge, and accordingly personalized the tutoring per the student's needs.
Furthermore, to create an interactive teaching/learning style, I frequently led and question and discussion sessions to encourage students to ask questions and speak out and discuss problems with their peers or myself. In addition, to help students to understand dry and abstract materials, I implemented the use of diagrams, figures, illustrations, body languages, etc. My goal is to help the students to build up their interest and confidence in learning, and do my best to generate positive impact on my students' learning experience.
