Do you want to learn to read, write, or speak Russian? As an experienced Russian language tutor, interpreter, and translator I would be happy to work with you to achieve your goals. Whether you are a beginner or looking to further develop skills you have alread, I can help you to take the next step to further your education.

I am a native Russian speaker and have been a student of English for many years. I am knowledgeable of grammatical differences and similarities between Russian and English. As a native speaker, I am able to give context to students about various Russian idioms which don't directly translate to English. With a strong knowledge of both English and Russian grammar conventions, I am able to anticipate and specifically teach to prevent common grammatical mistakes. I am college educated in the former Soviet Union as well as in the US, and I have a broad vocabulary with good awareness of syllabic inflection conventions. I also have kept my skills up to date through a variety of linguistic work including translation and interpreting as a certified professional.

My teaching style is inclusive of various mediums including traditional lecture, conversation, PowerPoint presentations, visual aids, reading assignments, writing assignments, video, and audio aides. My teaching style is also flexible depending on students' individual needs. For example, I might recommend a specific film, instructional video, or book for study based on a student's knowledge/skill level. I also believe it is important to tailor my approach to each student based on individual learning styles. I believe it is important to challenge students through hands-on application and extended conversation, but also to step back and take time to examine content more academically to facilitate the most comprehensive learning.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

General Computer

I have one-and-a-half years of experience tutoring students in a Bellevue College computer lab. In this role, I assisted students learning to use Microsoft Office Suite software and to develop basic computer skills. I am also currently volunteering as a tech tutor at the Lake Hill's Library where I help patrons to gain a range of computers skills.

Russian

I have college education in the former Soviet Union and in the US. I am natively fluent in Russian and Armenian. Through my own experience of learning languages I have developed effective strategies for teaching others. I have experience tutoring native and non-native speakers in both in the Soviet Union and the US.
