I have experience tutoring Russian to non-native Armenian and Azerbaijan speakers in multiple areas of the former Soviet Union. I also have informal experience tutoring in the US, mostly assisting others with translation and interpreting.
I am a native Russian speaker and have been a student of English for many years. I am knowledgeable of grammar and language structure differences and similarities between Russian and English. As a native speaker, I am able to give context to students about various Russian idioms which don't directly translate to English. With a strong knowledge of both English and Russian grammar conventions, I am able to anticipate and specifically teach to prevent common grammatical mistakes. I am college educated in the former Soviet Union as well as in the US, and I have a broad vocabulary with good awareness of syllabic inflection conventions.
My teaching style is inclusive of various mediums including traditional lecture, conversation, PowerPoint presentations, visual aids, reading assignments, writing assignments, video, and audio aides. My teaching style is also flexible depending on students' individual needs. For example, I might recommend a specific film or book for study based on a student's level of fluency. I also believe it is important to tailor my approach to each student based on individual learning styles. I believe it is important to challenge students through extended conversation in Russian only, but I also believe it is important to take time and examine structural/grammatical differences in English and Russian to facilitate the most comprehensive learning.
