My name is Leita and I am a very experienced Washington State certificated teacher. I have worked in the Puget Sound area in grades K-12 for many years. Put my experience and creative mind to work for you and your student! I am currently working in both public and private schools as well as serving as a principal arts coach in several public schools.
I am qualified to tutor and assist with homework in all subjects areas, PreK - 6, and reading/English K-12. I especially enjoy working with students in boosting their study skills, test taking skills and self-confidence, and I design specialized instruction with Response to Intervention techniques, inclusive of monitoring progress and the assessment of results. I especially enjoy working through word problems or essay questions, clearly showing every step and explaining every thought process until students obtain full conceptual understanding and can use key strategies confidently.
I have a degree in Elementary Education, a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and am endorsed in K-2 early childhood education and reading K-12.
I would be elated to help anyone who wants to work hard and I will provide motivators which will inspire any student (adult or child) to acquire successful learning. If you are looking for a dedicated educator who is patient, enthusiasic and cares, please give me a call. We can discuss your specific goals and how to effectively meet them. Dear Families:

I offer special rates for multiple family members and multiple hour lessons.
I want to take the time to recognize the truly dedicated and skilled professional that Leita is. Our son, though skeptical of the whole idea at first, through Lieta's enthusiasm and great "kid know how" to get young learners interested, has won over both his heart and mind. No easy task with a 13 year old boy indeed! We're seeing him be both excited to learn and showing great progress across a range of academic topics they have worked on already (Math, penmanship, writing skills, study skills, etc...)
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a degree in Elementary Education, K-8 with 19 years of teaching experience in these levels. I have taught math, reading, writing, science, social studies, grammar, study skills, vocabulary, phonics and spelling in grades K-6 and cultural education in grade 8. I am currently substitute teaching in grades K-12 in both private and public schools.
I am qualified to teach specific math skills and problem solving. I have tools that work with young students in these two areas that provide them with confidence and skill.
I have worked with children from many cultural and second language backgrounds and enjoy assisting them! Let me support your student in this important skill of learning the English language with confidence.
One of my favorite subjects to teach is the needlecrafts. I specialize in knitting, embroidery and rug making. I have over 35 years experience in the needlecrafts. I will make it easy to learn!
I am certificated in grades K-8, all subjects, and K-12 reading. I have taught second grade for 8 years and Title I reading for grades K-4 for three years. In both of these experiences, I taught phonics through the Writing Road to Reading, SRA and Wired for Reading. I also have worked in a response to interventions environment which assesses students in the area of phonics instruction.
I have a reading endorsement for grades K-12. I have taught primary students as a classroom teacher and have served as a Title/LAP teacher as recently as this March in a private school.
I have been a seamstress for 45 years. I can design, teach and make just about any item from a pattern or my own design work. I have taught family members and friends to sew, while taking sewing lessons on my own to better understand the craft from a student perspective. I would be happy to teach the craft of sewing.
During my 28 years of educational experience I have incorporated steady, consistent study skill instruction for students in grades K-8. I have prepared students for all types of assessments including multiple choice, essays and short form essays. A very important part of the study skills instruction I have provided for my students has included the organization, tracking and pacing of learning. Strong study skill acquisition contribute to self-confidence and learning success.
I have tools that I use with students to teach them how to write with confidence. They are very reliable and work!
