Art History
I have a four year Art Degree (BFA) from Pacific Lutheran University, which includes art history as well as studio classes and education classes. My emphasis was in General Art History (101), Contemporary Art (Modern Art), 20th Century Art, Nineteenth Century Art, etc.
My interest in art history has included studying the lives of all of the significant artist in history. This is an ongoing interest and study for me. I constantly refer to specific historical artist's style in current art classes which I teach, as well as with my private students.
Bible Studies
I am a lifelong Bible student. I consider it to be an essential part of everyone's education, regardless of your religious position. Bible reading is a daily activity for me. I have studied biblical issues under many teachers, and find that those issues must be pursued by study on an ongoing basis to gain understanding. I use concordances and other reference material as well as the Bible itself. No matter what one's background is, one cannot make an informed decision about biblical issues, without knowing the book itself. The Bible has more to offer contemporary wisdom that whole libraries of other books.
Drawing
I have been drawing all my life. In college I took drawing every quarter the first two years, and drawing was a part of all my art courses. I keep an active sketch book, and do preliminary drawings for most of my final artworks.
I teach several art classes and integrate drawing lessons into all of my art assignments. I consider drawing to be and essential part of the art experience.
English
I have an excellent background in English college work, including creative writing, literature, and educational applications. I wide experience with secondary teaching in English, Creative Writing, Social Studies, and Science. I have been coaching/tutoring an author of children's literature and have written a novel, which is being published.
Painting
Painting is my primary occupation. My college degree included continuous study from several of the best teachers. I have painted and studied painting for over 45 years. In teaching painting, I consider all the design concepts, such as color, value, repetition, line, space, form, draftsmanship and abstract quality as important issues for students to understand. I use as examples many of the well know painters of history. I encourage students to look at a lot of good artwork, and to learn to critique and self-critique. I have taught painting to students of all ages from five-year-olds to retirees, and every level between. I am comfortable teaching beginners or coaching experienced artists.
