An Environmental Science graduate from Willamette University, I love learning and working with students. I've organized and taught hands-on science curricula to talented and gifted middle school students, I have tutored elementary-age kids in the Salem school district, and I have experience volunteering in Jericho and Underhill elementary schools as a classroom assistant, as well as working with the Jericho Town Library on summer literacy programs. Most recently, I worked as a university language liaison, connecting international students, domestic students and professors. As a result, I am comfortable working across a wide age range, from elementary-age to early college-age students. I love working with kids to open new doors to learning, whether it be in language, reading, social sciences or the natural world. I am a college student with a strong understanding of responsibility. I love to volunteer, hike, cook, travel, and dance with friends.
I've worked with students with learning differences in the classroom, at summer camps, and in one-on-one tutoring situations. I have the most experience working with students of this type between elementary and middle school ages. I understand that it can take more effort to work to fit this type of learner, and I understand that challenge!
I am experienced with both PC and Mac computers. I work with them both on a regular basis, and would be happy to work with you on yours!
I love reading, and have extensive experience working with students of different ages on this subject. I've spearheaded literacy programs with the Jericho Town Library, and also volunteer with elementary school students with reading in the classroom. I've worked with early and late-age readers, and I understand that kids come to reading at their own rates. For older students, such as high-schoolers, I can offer assistance at becoming a faster and more proficient reader. For beginning readers, I can provide the enthusiasm and patience necessary to master this important skill. I've worked with kids of different abilities, including those on the Autism spectrum, so I am experienced with different learning styles.
Very pleased with progress so far — Rachel has been providing valuable instruction, feedback, and advice to our daughter both during and after her first two tutoring sessions. She seems to be very analytical, evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of her testing skills. The quality and quantity of her instruction and coaching have been what we were looking for. ...
