I am a retired science teacher of 20 years, teaching to all levels of students, from advanced levels to basic. Besides teaching, I tutored many students, and parents were very happy with the results. In addition to all fields of science, I feel competent in math, spelling, English, Spanish and some French.
As a parent myself, I am proud that my own children went on to Harvard, MIT, and American University, hopefully due to some of my influence! But I am more excited that I hopefully inspired them in a love of continuous learning and questioning. I truly love learning, and I work very hard to explain difficult concepts in a simplified manner. Essentially, once a teacher gets the ball of learning rolling, it's like inertia with young people; it just keeps going!
Being a parent, I can sympathize with frustrations when a child just isn't succeeding. I have a lot of compassion and understanding when dealing with difficulties in learning. I try to work with the parents and explain what I have done in each session of tutoring and make recommendations to continue between each tutoring hour. Upon parental request, I would make contact with teachers in order to parallel learning goals and time lines. My goal is to have the student succeed in school, but also to build self-confidence and teach learning tools to help students gain independence in academics. Phone consultations between sessions are also invited, and I email students between sessions with questions, answers or reminders.
