I have experience teaching young adults and adults, but I am willing to teach children as well. I am trained by the University of Cambridge/International House and I am CELTA certified. I use a communicative approach to my teaching. This means that the classes are student-centered so students use the language they learn rather than sit through lectures. I focus on clarifying language points such as grammar, vocabulary, phonology, and functions. I am experienced with many different textbooks and I adapt the material according to student's needs. I also tailor lessons based on the learning style of the students(visual, tactile, or auditory). Before I begin tutoring or begin giving lessons to a class, all students take a learner style test so I can adapt the lessons to give them the maximum benefit.
I do not use mother tongue translation as a method to teach, because this hinders language learning growth. However, I know Spanish and I am especially equipped to help Spanish-speakers learn English. I do give homework so students practice outside of the classroom. Most of the language that I teach is presented in a functional manner so students receive the practical benefits rather than memorizing lists of vocabulary.
Student success and progress in very important to me. I inform students of their progress on a bi-weekly basis and give them action points to work on as well as positive feedback.
