I am a science geek who has a passion for teaching the principles of science, especially in all areas of Biology and Chemistry. I have taught more than 50 college courses with over 7000 students. My courses were always well attended and very popular.
My course evaluations consistently showed a 90% approval rating or higher and I was considered to be in the top 10% of the teaching faculty. I taught courses that ranged in size from 5-300 students and have tutored and mentored hundreds of students ranging in age from 16-75. I am effective because I know my subjects very well and I care tremendously about the students I teach.
Most students are taught Biology as a series of dry facts: how many bones there are in the human body, how big bacteria are and what the parts of a plant are. Students come into a biology classroom with few expectations and usually very little excitement. That's unbelievable and unacceptable to me. A large oak tree, a human body, even a mold. These are extraordinarily exciting organisms that are not just a bag of facts! I teach CONCEPT driven biology. Your body is a series of many parts working together at a hundred levels on a trillion jobs at the same time! That's quite a concept, quite a challenge.
But the challenge is made much easier because once you learn the basics of cells and the chemicals that make up the cells, how they work and create new cells, you can apply these principles to any and all organisms. And then the next challenge: How does this organism work with other like and unlike organisms in the environment to produce highly diverse ecosystems... that's ecology. From atoms to the whole earth. I can help you understand the parts and how organisms are a great example of syngery in action: The whole (organism) is greater than the sum of the parts (cells). What an adventure. Let me be your guide.
