The most important tool for any student is to communicate and communicate well.
I am a former English teacher. I started out teaching in middle school and then moved to high school. I have taught basic grammar skills, writing principles, and literature analysis. I've also taught a remedial grammar class for two years at the community college level.
My background also includes ESOL (English as a Secondary Language) instruction for both students and adults.
Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked for the American Psychological Association as both the senior editor for a book review journal and as the assistant director of the International Affairs Office. In this capacity, I was the editor of a newsletter directed toward psychologists interested in international issues.
I now have a third career as the Director of Administration for a large homeowners association. One of my primary job responsibilities is to write and edit a newsletter geared toward a readership of 8,000 homeowners.
Writing and editing are fields that I have been involved in for over 30 years. My writing skills are now going in a different direction.
I have attended summer sessions at the University of Iowa's writing program and hope to try my hand at writing a book...one day.
