I am fairly new to the Williamsburg, VA area, although I am not new to tutoring or teaching. I have 25 years of experience working in Special Education, in which I hold a Master's degree. I have taught in both New York State and in Connecticut. I hold a Professional Educator license in Virginia and "Highly Qualified" status in Elementary Mathematics and Language Arts and Middle School Mathematics.

Last year, I worked at New Kent Middle School as a collaborative teacher in both 7th and 8th grades. I have tutored elementary and middle school students in the past. I have extensive training in the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading, some Wilson reading and Voyager's Mathematics. I have much experience in teaching organizational skills, note taking and study skills.

I have worked with LD students, autism spectrum disordered students, and students with ADHD.

I have a positive and easy manner and believe that all students can be successful.

On a personal note, I have raised four children. I have "walked the walk."

Excellent Tutor — JoAnn has been working with our second grade daughter on reading for the last 3 weeks. I have been so impressed with her professionalism and knowledge. She has a structured plan each week and has been able to identify the areas where my child needs help and tailor her lessons to meet those needs. JoAnn is a highly experienced teacher who is equally patient and kind. I feel fortunate to have found ...
