Hello! My name is Lucas. I am a graduate of the University of Rochester, where I studied Classics, linguistics, philosophy, literature, creative writing, and cognitive science.
As a classicist, I specialize in the ancient: Ancient languages (Greek, Latin), Classical history, and so on. I have my B.A. in Classics, and I am also highly proficient in English. Thanks to my love of grammar and linguistics training, I have a greater-than-typical understanding of not just what makes for correct English, but also why, and I have a lot of experience using this understanding to help teach others.
As a tutor, my highest priority is students beginning their study of Latin or Greek. Otherwise, I am also very willing to tutor English (reading, writing, composition, grammar, anything of the sort) and history (Western history, at least, as I have no experience with Asian history).
I have the general understanding that comes from completing AP American History in high school, but far more importantly, I currently specialize in 17th century American history, especially Jamestown/Virginia.
I have a B.A. in Classics.
Along with the the classical languages, I am well versed in ancient history and culture. I specialize in the time periods of the Athenian Empire (roughly one hundred years, from the Persian Wars to the end of the Peloponnesian Wars, c. 500-400 B.C.) and of the Roman Empire (roughly six hundred years, from the civil wars at the end of the Republic to the dissolution of the Western Roman Empire, c. 100 B.C. - AD 476). I am also comfortable with the time between those periods, as well as several hundred years on either side.
I studied Attic Greek for all four years of my time in college, and have continued to read it on my own since then. I have experience as a teaching assistant in an Introduction to Greek course.
I am comfortable tutoring introductory-level Attic or Koine (New Testament) Greek--defined loosely as the study of grammar rather than the reading of works.
After three years of studying Greek, I began my study of Latin, and within just a few months was able to jump to reading Latin texts.
I am comfortable tutoring Classical Latin, but I also have experience with medieval Latin, and (albeit very limited) archaic Latin.
When I took the SATs, I received a 750 on the math section.
When I took the SATs, I received a 760 on the Critical Reading section.
When I took the SATs, I received a 790 on the Writing section.
