I hold a Master of Science in Telecommunications from George Mason University. My undergraduate work was in both Computer Science and Education. I currently teach general introduction to computer courses and web development courses to students at the freshman and sophomore college level.
Overall, I have four years of experience in college teaching of Information Technology as three years experience tutoring busy student-athletes in history, math, statistics, English, and computer science a one-on-one setting. I have worked with students with a variety of disabilities - including ADHD, autism, and hearing impairments. In addition, I have worked with a variety of skill levels and learning styles and I have the ability to adapt my teaching to techniques that work best for you!
I also have an art background. I have several years of formal education in art and I've taught photography, stop-motion animation animation, and color theory to junior high school students. This, combined with my Information Technology/Computer Science background, creates an ideal combination for teaching multimedia web development. Although I certainly also enjoy working with general computer problems as well.
I have a physical disability and, as a result, I use a wheelchair for mobility. I think it's important that you be aware of this because it may affect our potential meeting locations for tutoring. My preferred meeting location is within my own home.
I am primarily a tutor for computer-related topics and give priority to request in those areas. I have obtained approval in other subject areas because I have tutored a variety of fields and students with difficulty in one subject area often have problems in related areas. For example, a student that is learning to draw vector objects might also need to refresh basic math skills or a student with computer programming difficulties might need to review logic or spelling. I am, however, open to inquiries in all of my approved subject areas.
My hourly rate assumes little to no travel. I try to keep my hourly rate as low as possible so that students who want to learn the material are not hindered with a financial barrier. If you require more travel for our meetings, we will need to discuss a higher rate to cover my transportation costs.
I have taught multimedia web development using Dreamweaver and Microsoft Expression Web for the past 3 years with CS5, CS6 and the Creative Cloud. I have advanced skills hand-coding in HTML 5, XHTML 1.0, and CSS 3, which compliments use of web authoring software.
I have been teaching web design at the college level for the past three years. I am proficient with writing both XHTML 1.0, HTML 5, and CSS 3 manually as well as using MS Expression Web or Adobe Dreamweaver. I have an art background and a solid understanding of design concepts and current issues with regards to web design.
