I am a fun tutor who has degrees in neuroscience and microbiology. I am currently a Ph.D. student in emerging infectious diseases. I love science, and I have been tutoring for over seven years now. I have worked primarily with test prep, including MCAT, SAT, ACT, and GRE. However, I also love working with students of all ages. I am very flexible. I have experience tutoring students with ADHD and dyslexia as well as students with general learning difficulties.
In addition to test prep, I enjoy tutoring biology, math, history, and English. I have experience tutoring at all grade levels and at a collegiate level. My schedule is extremely flexible, and I can tutor during the day, as well as on evenings and weekends.
I can't wait to get started working with you!
I have worked in the admissions office of Furman University and closely with the admissions program at Clemson University. I also have worked with HS students applying to college for over 5 years now, allowing me insight into both sides of the admissions process. I consider myself well versed in both the application process and the application review process.
While I am numerically dyslexic, my husband is truly dyslexic. Both of us have successfully overcome this disability to be extremely successful in our fields. I have worked with many dyslexic students, specifically on test prep for SAT and ACT and met with great success.
Not only have I taken the GRE with excellent results (I recently took the new GRE and scored a 170 in verbal and a 166 in Math), but I have also tutored students for the test for over 5 years now. I enjoy working with students to teach them how to take the test. I am knowledgeable about the subjects on the test, as well as the strategies needed to excel.
I have worked with MCAT students for 3 years now, preparing them for this difficult test. My strengths are preparing for the verbal and writing sections, but I have also worked with students on the biological sciences section. I do not feel comfortable tutoring the Physics or Organic Chemistry sections.
Being a child who constantly got in trouble for talking, public speaking seemed a natural for me. However, I still had to overcome my own brand of stage nervousness. Therefore, I feel uniquely qualified to look at both the speaking and the nervousness associated with it to be the best tutor for an anxious student.
I have been tutoring the SAT for over 7 years now. I was trained to teach the test by a test prep company, and since then, I have evolved my own strategies based on the success of my students. I always endeavor to take into consideration the learning styles and strengths of my students when tutoring, so each tutorial is different, based on the needs of the student.
Great tutor! — Cynthia taught effective test-taking techniques that helped my daughter do much better on the SAT II Math I Test. She clearly cares about her students and relates with them well! ...
