I have been a public policy adviser for 20 years, advising governors, legislators and other senior officials on making wise policy decisions. In this role, I've benefitted from a mastery of quantitative analysis and a pragmatic understanding of how the levers of government operate.
I took algebra beginning in 5th grade and scored an 800 on the math section of my SAT (and 790 on the similar section of the GRE). I especially enjoy algebra, as it provides a solid foundation for important aspects of business and life for years to come. I also enjoy writing concisely and effectively, as policy reform requires the distillation of technical knowledge into a comprehensible summary for decision makers.
Such work often requires proactive responses to stress, similarly to SAT or ACT preparation. I recently served as budget director in one of America's largest and most fiscally distressed cities, so I understand how to achieve success under pressure.
I have a passion for helping students enjoy learning the subjects I teach, and I look forward to sharing this passion with your family. Brent structured studies with my 13 year old son based on my son's personal style of learning. His individual approach was the key that brought fast improvement of grades. Brent taught the main concept that allowed him to solve many similar problems, rather then repeatedly making him follow steps without understanding. My son has a very short attention span and gets bored instantly, so it is important to make lesson interesting for him. Brent also inspired my son to be proud of his work and his grades. It was very important for him to show Brent that he was trying and he is capable. Brent is a great motivator, and my son went from F to A.
Brent is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about math. I have seen my child's grade improve and homework is not such a struggle.
Brent H. is a wonderful tutor with great knowledge in all subjects. I would describe him as very eloquent, patient, and supportive with helping my son with his SAT preparation. He is punctual and respectful. I would recommend him to anyone looking for an ACT/SAT tutor.
My Daughter has had an IEP since she was 4. Certain subjects have been very difficult for her, even though she has a Photographic memory, such as Math. Against my requests to have my Daughter repeat a year in 7th grade, the school pushed her forward, leaving her with a very weak foundation of skills. So now in 11th grade, and working Algebra II, she is failing badly. Enter Brent. Brent was amazingly patient with her. He would help her with any odd question she would have, even if if would pertain to Elementary Math. He would provide different examples to test her understanding, and note areas of continued difficulty. With the weekly Tutoring sessions, my Daughter was able to eventually pass the Algebra II class and pass her Virginia Algebra II SOL.
I would highly recommend Brent for any Student.
My daughter is a junior in high school, and has been tutored by Brent for one school year for her math ( Algebra 2). My daughter is shy, but she found him to be very comfortable to be with and received great help with her math.
Brent is punctual; is very patient; he makes it easy to understand; he is not judgmental (my daughter's words); very focused; very cheerful; reliable; responsible; honest and he knows his material very well (Math - Algebra 2).
We were very fortunate to have found him and we recommend him most highly.
I highly recommend Brent H. for anyone looking for a math tutor! He is very punctual and professional. He made my daughter feel at ease immediately. After the second lesson my daughter started feeling better about math and actually looked forward to the sessions. Her confidence in tackling homework and the upcoming SAT test is much higher than it was a month ago!
Brent H. is fantastic!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
