I have an extensive background in math, the sciences and English, particularly reading and writing. I have a passion for learning and love to see students achieve their breakthrough in learning a difficult subject. I have many hours of training as a tutor at the college level, and have been previously certified to tutor oceanography, English, and Spanish.
I am currently a training and education specialist, and design and facilitate leadership courses. In addition to my experience tutoring kids and young adults, I am also well versed in several adult learning methods. I have tutored adults who have returned to college to seek their degrees in the past as well.
My approach to tutoring is very simple: I believe that every student has the ability to succeed, and it is my job as a tutor to bring out the absolute best in each student. Just because a student is struggling with a particular subject does not mean they are stupid; there may be many different factors inhibiting them from success--the teacher, the learning environment, personality, etc. I believe in coaching students to do their very best, and I employ a wide variety of methods, including visual cues, color-coding, time management, case studies, and even role playing. I also encourage students to take personal responsibility for their studies. In order to be successful, they have to be willing to put in the extra hard work and effort.
