I'm Brian D. an Asian-American artist who been making art for about 10 years. I learned from the best figurative teachers--Chawky Frenn, Wade Schuman, John Jacobsmeyer, Vincent Desiderio, Jenny Saville, Jean-Pierre Roy, etc. The knowledge I have in formal art education I use as examples when I tutor whether adults or kids how to paint or draw. Examples from as many different resources as possible from my own art examples, art books, other artists, demonstrations, techniques and their website.
Learning to paint is drawn from foundation in drawing and color theory. I am able to teach foundation and fundamental visual language/vocabulary use in art school. The things I want to teach as well is student how to effectively use their art materials and resourceful use of materials.
Teaching young artists good studio practice is essential for developing good artists.
I also provide students with different perspective from the art world in the greater Washington, D.C. Region as well as New York City and Leipzig, Germany. I can help aid in students assessment of their portfolio if they are applying to art school or university. I am an engaging teacher and will treat each student's personal interest in art separately but push them to be the best artist they wish they can be whether that's a figurative artist, landscape artist, still life artist, abstract artist. Each student grow at different rate so I will adapt project assignment accordingly to their needs and age level.
