I am a Graphic Designer by training, from one of the pioneer Graphic Design university programs in the country, with traditional art school life-drawing, and sculpture in addition. I practiced many years in the fields of design and communication. During that time I also was very involved as a volunteer in the Big Brother/Big Sister organizations.
While working in LA (1996-2000), I volunteered to teach a Sunday School class, and enjoyed it, enough so, that when we moved to Virginia, I decided to switch careers. I became an Art teacher. First on the grade school level in DC, and then I switched to high school, teaching sculpture, & traditional darkroom Photo.
At a public charter high school I returned to the broader spectrum of an art program. Later developing (and teaching) a digital photography
I believe in art as a core element of a complete education. I enjoy working with youth as well as older students to find or develop their creative talents. I believe many struggle in school, and in finding their strengths. For some that strength, is artistic ability. I know that, because I lived it, and I've since watched it occurring in my students.
As a Graphic Designer, if that might be your career path, drawing and conceptualizing 'on the board' are critical, in my view, to quality design. Learn to draw and you'll be far ahead of the 'tech-heads'.
I look forward to working with you, to develop 'Your Talent'!
