"Knowledge is Power, and Enthusiasm Pulls the Switch.” How are YOU doing today! I am a senior at James Madison University studying psychology with a writing and rhetoric minor. I feel that sometimes children lack the enthusiasm to learn or review the subjects the have trouble in! From a psychological standpoint, according to the “expectancy-value theory,” a learner’s motivation is determined by how much they value the goal and whether or not they expect to succeed. If a child does not expect to succeed or does not value the goal (in this situation, the subject they are learning about), then their motivation is lowered which in turn leads to not wanting to learn or review the subject.
I have experience tutoring in French, Spanish, and K-8th grade school subjects. Some subjects that are not included in my subject list are French and Italian. I absolutely adore children and I understand how frustrating it can be when you put all your effort into a subject and still not get the hang of the concepts. What I lack in experience I make up for in reading; whether it is "The Essential 55" or "Mindful Teaching and Teaching Mindfulness," I always try to incorporate anything that I feel will help the child facilitate their understanding of the subject.
That's my teaching philosophy in a nutshell! I do appreciate you taking the time to consider me as a potential tutor. If you have any questions, just email me!
