My love of teaching comes from a love of knowledge. As a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University studying engineering, I know that with great knowledge comes hard work and dedication. There are plenty of classrooms across the states where students do not understand the way it is being taught and need more attention in order to properly learn the material.
Allow my experience as an instructor and my outgoing personality teach you everything you need to know. The most important thing when tutoring someone is to figure out what the student does not understand- once I know the problem area, I can go back and cover the basics in order to bring the student up to speed. My normal method will be to prepare a lesson plan to teach the concepts then test your knowledge with example problems. As an instructor at a Math Learning center, I was responsible for teaching up to 5 students of different subject level simultaneously. Each student is assessed on their knowledge of mathematics then given the proper prescriptive to teach the material at the rate of the student. The instructors are there to teach the fundamentals, then check and correct each prescriptive that is completed. The end of every section has a Mastery Check to assess the student's level of comfort in the area. From there, we determine the best lesson plans for the students and can guide them through the subject matter.
I specialize in teaching mathematics in a way everyone can understand. The subjects I teach are Elementary School Math, Pre Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry, Pre Calculus, Calculus of two variables (Calc I & II), Multivariate Calculus (Calc III), and any mathematics you are having trouble with. Aside from my knowledge of mathematics I am also willing to teaching general computer skills including: Using Word, PowerPoint, Excel, removing viruses, and much more. I create lesson plans for every session and have examples for us to work through. One on one tutoring is the best path between you and understanding!
I hold true to my values and believe that if anyone is dissatisfied with a session then that person will not be charged. The most important thing to me is teaching a love of learning and knowledge.
I will be flexible for session times, but request that if you wish to cancel do so up to 5 hours in advance.
To ensure that the student is in a safe and quiet place to learn, the best place to meet is at a local library or other venue, but the location is determined out of convenience for you. I will drive to meet you up to 25 miles away from zip code 23223.
I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you succeed in everything you do!
Keeps Attention! — Jacob has worked with my son for three hours now, one at a two hour stretch. Miraculously, he has managed to keep my son's attention on Algebra II while building his skills and confidence. That is pretty incredible since my son typically sleeps through math class in its entirety. My son is now caught up on his work, staying awake in class (because he actually "gets it"), and is participating. With ...
