Hello! Let me tell you why I think that I am the perfect tutor for you! I have been a tutor for ten years now. I started out my freshman year of college tutoring statistics students, and then moved on to several other areas. I have a B.A. in Mathematics as well as one in English with a Philosophy minor. I am currently working on my M.S. in Statistics. These, however, do not encompass the scope of my tutoring capabilities. I am versed in many areas, including Chemistry, Physical Science, History, Government, Music, Standardized Test Preparation, Geography, Literature, and Psychology. I have tutored elementary school students as well as graduate candidates. I place a high emphasis on finding out who you are and what kind of learning works for you. I am very energetic, and try to make the sessions fun by relating lessons to things that you enjoy.

Algebra 2

I have been an Algebra tutor for more than ten years. During my undergraduate studies, I worked at a math institute teaching Prealgebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Trigonometry and Precalculus. My time there enabled me to learn some excellent tools for tutoring high school mathematics.

Statistics

I have been tutoring and teaching statistics for ten years, beginning when I was a freshman in college. I spent six years as an adjunct professor of statistics at a small university in Maryland, and am currently completing a master's degree in bioinformatics - a blending of biology and statistics.

English

As a former English major with a degree in the subject, I have a lot of experience in this area. I spent four years tutoring all aspects of this subject while in my undergraduate studies.

SAT Math

I have been working in standardized test preparation for the past five years. I have developed a method that incorporates subject specific knowledge with general test taking skills. These come as a series of lessions with corresponding homework as well as periodic evaluations to track student progress.

Piano

I have been playing the piano for 21 years. I learned how to teach others to play from my mother, who is a professional musician. I work well with beginners of all ages, and am enthusiastic about helping them learn. I believe that it is important for any aspiring pianist to read music, and so I start them off with books emphasizing note reading rather than playing by ear.

Swimming

I have been teaching swimming lessons for thirteen years. I got my start at a small summer camp and have since taught at YMCA's, schools, and other various locations. Years ago, I was a certified Red Cross WSI. While my certificate has expired, the knowledge and skills that I learned are still fully intact.

Discrete Math

Discrete Mathematics was one of my favorite courses when I was earning my B.A. in mathematics. I earned an A in the course, and tutored students in subsequent semesters of the class. I am versed in both the computational and logical requirements, and I can explain how the two meet and work together in this course.

Linear Algebra

I look Linear Algebra while completing my B.A. in mathematics, and tutored it in subsequent semesters. Since that time, I have used the techniques that I learned in various applications, including my current work on my Master's degree.

Chemistry

I have been a Chemistry tutor for six years, beginning during my undergraduate studies when I worked for the Chemistry department as a tutor and laboratory assistant. My background in mathematics tutoring is helpful for those who struggle with the proportions and logarithms portions of the class.
