Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I hold a Master of Arts in Biblical Literature - Judaic Christian Concentration from Oral Roberts University. I have successfully completed all my coursework and written and defended my Thesis in May 2010. My research work focused on the Jewish roots of Jesus' teachings on humility in the Gospel of Luke.

The years I have devoted to the study of the Bible and Biblical scholarship have prepared me not only for the future goal of pursuing a PhD in the field, but also to help other students excell in their own study of the Bible and the Biblical languages. While working as a Teaching Assistant of Greek for over a year, I had the chance to sharpen my knowledge and understanding of the Old and New Testaments, and especially the Hebrew and Greek languages. For this reason, I am excited about the opportunity to help other students succeed in their work.

ESL/ESOL

I have taught ESL/ESOL/EFL for about 9 years both at public and private institutions, as well as on a one-on-one private basis. I have a Bachelor's/Licensure Degree in English Language Teaching, and have led and participated in several Second Language Acquisition conferences and seminars. Below is a list of some of the certificates I hold:

Workshop: Learning Styles and TPR and Games in the college classroom, UM,
Fall 2004.
Workshop: Content-based Second Language Instruction, Composition grading, and OPI and Oral Interviews grading, University of Mississippi, Fall 2003.
“EFL Testing & Assessment” Workshop, FALE-UFMG, Brazil, December 1999.
Organized and presented TEFL Workshop, “How to Make the Most of ‘English File,’” UFMG - Brazil, 05 March 1999.
Workshop: “Reading Skills through Literature” TEFL , FALE-UFMG, Brazil, 27 Nov. 1998.
Workshop: “ESL Testing and Journal”, FALE-UFMG, Brazil, Brazil, 02 Oct. 1998.
Workshop: “EFL/ESL Classroom Observation” , FALE-UFMG, Brazil, 21 Aug.1998.
English Language Student-Teacher Training, FALE-UFMG, Brazil, 12-23 May 1996.

I look forward to helping you become proficient in the English language!

GED

I have worked as an adult educator for several years and have the knowledge, passion and experience necessary to help students excel in their GED preparation studies.

Greek

I hold a Master of Arts degree in Biblical Literature. As I was pursuing my MA degree, I had the opportunity to work as Teaching Assistant of Biblical Greek for over a year. As a T.A., I wrote weekly vocabulary quizzes; corrected and graded quizzes, translation, and grammar assignments; led part of the class on a weekly basis and taught a full class once a month; and also provided tutoring and exam review sessions to the students.

In sum, I have a passion for Greek and am well qualified to help students excell in their study of the Bible and Biblical Greek.

Portuguese

I am a native Portuguese speaker with several years of training and experience teaching Portuguese at the university level.
